    2018-2019 NBA Thread

Sure the Finals themselves only had a couple of close games, but there were plenty of excellent series leading up to it. I do think that Boston matches up much better against Golden State than the Cavs did. The Cousins addition could make a real difference in the Houston and maybe a Celtics...

People always talk about parity, but that's never what the ratings show. Nobody really wants just a bunch of above average teams in the playoffs with nobody to chase.

Again I don't the specific cards matter as much as my point that mana cheating mechanics are dangerous

Celtics play perimeter defense, they'd be better against the warriors than the Cavs were.

    2018-2019 NBA Thread

NBA is different than the other major sports because 1 player makes such a difference. A starting pitcher might matter more in the games they play, but they're only going to be starting 35 games or something out of 162. Mayb QB in the NFL

    2018-2019 NBA Thread

I mean Houston came real close to beating them in the playoffs, Boston/Cavs series was interesting too, it's not just it's 1 good team, the problem is after the top handful of teams the dropoff is drastic.

Would be generally worse than Dig for most decks and dig isn't banned in everything the way cruise is. The point in general though is mechanics that cheat on mana are dangerous if the drawbacks are something that can be worked around especially when linked to card draw or other card advantage...

Sure you can say that about a lot of mechanics. If Treasure Cruise was UU6 instead of U7 then it probably wouldn't be banned in a bunch of formats. Phyrexian mana on creatures for limited is kind of whatever, but when you put it on removal spells or make some free it's a huge issue.

Legacy bannings are interesting. Probe is a dumb card and Phyrexian mana in general was a terrible mechanic. Deathrite is an interesting choice and reduces incidental graveyard hate quite a lot.

The whole thing is Lonzo is actually pretty interesting as a player. He does a lot of things well and if he can develop a jump shot he could be very good. Lavarr does his kid no favors with his horseshit. There's no chance the Spurs would trade Kawhi straight up for Lonzo, that's just dumb.

Healthy Celtics might be better than the Cavs with Lebron now anyways so I don't think it's bad as all that.

Things always seem to spiral out of control for him. He can be pitching well, then give up a run, then that turns int 4 or 5. He just gives up too many big innings which really sucks.

    2018-2019 NBA Thread

If the whole thing with both of them and Kawhi going there would be pretty scary with how good they'd be defensively on the perimeter which is something that gives GSW issues. Without Kawhi they'd obviously still be good, but not sure it's enough to make them better than Golden State or...

Yeah I wasn't suggesting that it's unwatchable garbage, but the bar set by season 1 was really high and season 2 clearly doesn't maintain that quality level. It still has some good episodes and has plenty of good moments and the production value is high. The writing is mind numbingly bad at...

Small market and a front office/coach that doesn't put up with as much bullshit. This is definitely not a good look for Kawhi. Being a Spurs guy I'd hate to see someone of his skillset gone, but it's looking like a Lakers trade is going to end up happening. They've been about as good as it...
