Well, I always played D2 (and the little D3 I played) in Hardcore mode. And I love me some Dark Souls. But this is pretty fantastic. It's very rewarding just roaming around blowing shit up and mowing down hordes of fodder enemies, in 40 different flavors.

Meh, I've never found the ARPG genre to be a good one for "difficult" content. That was what frustrated me about D3, among MANY other things. This is much more like faceroll D2, but with the added bonus of 40+ unique heroes with their own personalities, fantastic account-wide synergy/progression...

I finished AP/Crossworlds and enjoyed all of it, then went on to WotN. I'm not a fan really, the game is way way too easy now, and I think it boils down to the (completely unnecessary) addition of "runes" to your combat units. The extra turn shit just made it so ridiculously faceroll easy, even...

On the contrary, OMD2 was severely frustrating in that when playing co-op, it limits your maximum loadout to ~6 things rather than 10 when solo. For some reason they thought that was necessary, when the entire point of the game is variety in how you smash orcs. 6 slots made it extremely limiting.

Yeah much shorter turns would indeed increase the skill ceiling. When every turn, you're allowed to evaluate every possible choice's outcome (basically), your ceiling drops considerably.
