If your whole team isn't paralyze immune then you're using Ling to cure paralyze anyway.

I'm not tossing a jeweled ring on Firion, that would cost me 30+20% atk, at which point it would probably be better to just go back to boring old Noctis companion, and having someone other than Noctis/Olive up is fun.

I'd say 2 was more of starting down the path that led to 3, rather than being a complete change from 1. The issue with 2 was that 90% of the game was recruitment and loyalty quests. Very little of the story actually had anything to do with the Reapers or Collectors.
