Dotcom (the internet) was not a wet fart. Its probably the single greatest human innovation ever, so far. AI is also not a wet fart. The rise, fall, fallout and eventual takeover will likely be very similar. If not exactly the same.

Does dry brining make a difference? I don't know... why don't you just take the 10 seconds to salt a steak and then stick it in the fridge before you go to work tomorrow morning. Then cook the steak the exact same way you otherwise would have that night. 29 steps? Fancy? What are you guys...

AI is absolutely, 100% not going to work out the way its being bet on. It's a race, and most races have a lot of losers. It's definitely, unequivocally, and without a doubt a bubble waiting to burst.

AI: The Rise of the Machines... Or Just a Lot of Overhyped Chatbots?

It's 2010. I have a simple application that is business critical but doesn't see much traffic or load. I deploy it to a VM. I would like high availability so I also deploy it to another, passive VM and take advantage of clustering. In the year 2010 we call this redundancy and refer to the...

There is no magic. The purpose of virtualization was to decouple software from hardware, thus making the software durable and easy to migrate. Physical vs logical as you kind of touched on. Yet still to this day we have companies deploying entire code bases to multiple regions AND disaster...

AI: The Rise of the Machines... Or Just a Lot of Overhyped Chatbots?

I want you to read your post, the one that I quoted, from the standpoint of "words have meaning". And then contemplate how contradictory the entire thing is. Its magical how brainwashed people become in the tech space with buzzwords. The best possible example of this is virtualization, what it...

The more I think about it, the weaker the 10th floor was as part of the whole story. Especially the dynamic between the Crawlers and particularly Osvaldo. A lot of it seemed like an afterthought. The 11th floor and its revelations really saved the book imo.

I never pat a steak with anything, ever. I salt it immediately and let it dry brine for at least 6 hours until the moisture gets drawn back in OR, if I want the steak sooner than that, I season it, bake it in a 200 degree oven until it hits 125, then sear it off.
  16. Khane

    Gravy's Cooking Thread

This might get a good sear but the steak won't be as good. Either give it enough time to properly dry brine (i.e. the moisture naturally gets drawn back in, away from the surface) or reverse sear it. Never pat dry a steak.

AI: The Rise of the Machines... Or Just a Lot of Overhyped Chatbots?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is people use AI in the wrong way to try and simplify their lives. It's like AI makes them forget how anything and everything works. So using that example, prompting AI to do this type of thing can be efficient and a time saver. However people prompt and...

How many times can one contradict themselves in one paragraph? This isn't even really your fault. I blame the nebulous, dubious language that has steered technology "paradigms" over the last 30 years. "It's not wifi! It's mesh! It's totally different!"

This show is great, and is also a major disappointment (for me) The first episode was exactly my kind of humor, and it was hilarious and had hints of horror. It seemed like this was going to be a comedy horror. But it's not. The humor is basically almost entirely gone, and the show is really...
