Nothing wrong with 30" eves. I have 48" eves. Builder decided it was a good idea in 1977 I guess. That said, I have a wicked huge amount of insulation in my attic, but plenty of space at r the edges so the eves vent like crazy. No rooftop or ridge vents, and there has never once been an ice damn...
