Yea I tried elder 3 times and shaper died all 3 times, so my dps just isn't up to snuff to finish it currently. I've made some upgrades since my last try with tombfist/molten strike helm so maybe it'll be enough now, if I can get the elder blob to move back up to t12+.

I beat the grandmaster thing by buying a shitty scepter that grants level 25 scorching ray and burning them to death. Was the only way I could even damage a couple of them through their infinite energy shield/regen.

Yes, as long as they are in different pieces of gear. Highest level gem takes over in same piece. Certain abilities, like immortal call, share their cooldown so you can't really stack those.
