    Anno 117: Pax Romana

It's wildly GPU intensive. Even with not much going on...GPU load: 99%, CPU: 3%. I imagine this will improve with patches/drivers. Edit: No idea why but this is running far more smoothly using borderless windowed fullscreen instead of fullscreen. GPU meter still pegged, tho.

    Anno 117: Pax Romana

I'm playing at 4K and cranked everything to max and the game looks razor sharp to me, nothing at all weird graphically. My FPS is kinda shit though and I'm on a 5090. Either there is some optimization left to be done or I have to figure out what setting(s) are killing me.

    Anno 117: Pax Romana

Why does this have to release within a few days of EU5? I still remember spending hours working to get the large bath houses and other high end buildings to become available in the original Caesar game (holy shit, did that really come out 33 years ago?). SimCity + ancient Rome = crack.

    Europa Universalis V

Alright, I spun up another new game last night (still Naples) and am doing vastly better now. Despite the suggestions to fully automate trade, I found that ducking in and out to make certain import/export tweaks helped. I also have a much better understanding of building and pop interactions...

    Europa Universalis V

I tried this for a few hours over the weekend. As a total n00b to the series I think my biggest point of confusion is that I have no reference point or other clear indication as to whether I'm actually doing well or not. I've been playing as Naples and after restarting a handful of times I...

    Europa Universalis V

I've been itching for a grand strategy game lately. I've never tried EU, saw this had very good reviews and grabbed it for $50 off of cdkeys. Then I clicked on some random review..."I'm an EU veteran. I didn't feel like I knew what I was doing with EU5 until about the 100 hour mark. After 1000...

    Nintendo Switch (previously NX)

Stopped at Target this morning and saw they had what must have been at least 100 of these on a cart with zero line. One dude strolled up to the girl at the counter saying "I know it's a long shot bu..." "Nope, we have plenty." Hopefully the eBay scalpers get wrecked.

    The Witcher 4

Yup. A few coworkers and I played EQ in 2000 and one of them (a bit of a dumbass who made too much money) bragged about buying an SMR for the low, low price of...150 (real) dollars. No one was slinging those things around in their prime to random strangers as a potential entree to imaginary...

    Star Wars Battlefront II

I finally got some time in after buying this and apparently quickly forgetting about it back in 2017. How are the graphics this good 8 years later? With everything cranked up and HDR turned on it looks amazing. To boot, it rarely dips below 200FPS even @4K with 20+ characters on screen and...

    Star Wars Battlefront II

Huh, looks like I bought this in 2017 and played it for all of 4 hours, I have virtually no memory of it. Was this the game that was loaded with loot box bullshit? Guess I'll download it.

NVidia GeForce RTX 50x0 cards - 70% performance increase, but AI > you

Neumanns are awesome. I have the KH 150s (and a 750 sub) which are definitely overkill for the desktop, but my office opens up to a living room and you can crank them up to dance party levels and they fully fill the space while remaining clean.

NVidia GeForce RTX 50x0 cards - 70% performance increase, but AI > you

Keyboard up top means I'm too close to the big ass screen and speakers....wasn't fully a fan at first but I'm 100% used to it now. And the crew of hot Venezuelan maids (well there's one sloppy ham beast who joins once in a while) do their work every Friday, so the Cheetos dust and jizz can...

NVidia GeForce RTX 50x0 cards - 70% performance increase, but AI > you

I use a 42" LG OLED for my desktop display. Over the course of ~40 years (jesus fucking christ) of computer gaming, it's about the most transformative single piece of gear I ever bought. But yeah, at 4K you need all the VRAM you can get your hands on unless you're okay with cranking...

NVidia GeForce RTX 50x0 cards - 70% performance increase, but AI > you

Well that escalated quickly. With 5090s slowly working their way into stock I ran into an open box MSI Gaming Trio that allegedly contained an unused card at a "good" (lol) price - think mild ass molestation versus a 10 black guy gang rape. I picked it up, and the card was indeed virgin as it...

I was left wanting more, but that's much more compliment than complaint. I called the final Bix scene but it still effectively hit the feelz. K-2 was even better here than in Rogue One I probably said the same thing when season 1 ended, but it's really refreshing to have a prequel that actually...

NVidia GeForce RTX 50x0 cards - 70% performance increase, but AI > you

I've not been keeping up on the 5 series but I'm seeing 5090s popping up in stock for more than 7 seconds at places, so of course the upgrade bug is being a bit of an asshole. I game at 4K with a 4090, and the only reason I'm even mildly considering the upgrade is that I can sell my card used...

The obvious explanation is that the original movie was made in the seventies when Atari-level graphics and CRTs were state of the art, and since the show is set in that time period they are simply adhering to the same aesthetics.

I enjoyed these more than the first three for sure (and those were mostly fine). I love being able to just sink into the show and let it play out at its own pace. Not every god damn thing needs to be purpose-built for an ADHD audience. And while it seems counterintuitive for a such...

    Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Something's wrong then. I'm running a 4090 and at 4K I'm generally 100-120FPS in town and have yet to dip below 80 out in the world. I have nearly every setting maxed except for dumb shit like motion blur. Grab the current version of DDU to wipe nearly every trace of video drivers from your PC...

The third episode sure got dark. It's mostly good so far as long as you can appreciate the hour+ slow burn setups and then the concurrent payoffs (I do), but what was with the crew of dipshits on Yavin? A couple days of getting hangry and they're ready to literally murder each other and then...

    Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

I didn't have ever playing Oblivion again on my bingo card, but the Elder Scrolls itch hasn't been scratched in many years so I caved. So far I'm really enjoying it. It crashed like a motherfucker early on in the prologue and I was about ready to call it garbage and request a refund, but since...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

I don't think I've ever equipped a shield in Elden Ring. If my hands are moving, something sharp is in them. Except for when I put on the penis robe.

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

Other than perhaps Radahn (TBD), Gaius was the most annoying fight by far, even though it took me longer to take Messmer down. Fuck that asshole and the pig he rode in on. Here's my personal difficulty ranking for a lot of the named bosses (leaving out the invaders/crypt bosses etc because I...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

I hit Radhan over the weekend and made three low-effort attempts at him just to get a feel for the fight. It really does seem turbo shitty and unfun and I haven't yet felt the desire to log back in and give it a serious attempt. This may be the first time I just look up the best cheese build and...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

I think everything is effectively wrapped up except for the final area. Finger Mother was more irritating than she should have been. I don't know if I got unlucky or what, but she constantly seemed to fly around blasting the giant super laser, and whenever I got close she'd turn sideways and go...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

It's pretty surprising how quickly you can make a direct run to the final area without really trying to, as long as Messmer isn't a huge roadblock, at least. It snuck up on me fast and I haven't had a lot of time to play. I made some progress up the tower (Taker's Flames > those bullshit...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

The "terrible" version was nerfed not long after release. Unless for some reason that was reversed later, as long as you aren't severely under-geared/under-leveled the fight's not too bad. As far as ranking this DLC as the "best ever", eh, I don't know. I think Elden Ring is certainly one of...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

I nearly one shot Malenia back when I first went through the game. It was way late, I was exhausted and awake for far longer than I intended to be. I hacked my way through the Haligtree stuff, and then there's Malenia as I'm literally nodding off with the controller in my hand. Alright...one...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

From what I read he can also drop the shield, which I think is where I got it. Apparently other knights can drop the shield, but not the greathammer. In any case I'm OCD with loot and wouldn't have left anything behind, especially not something off of a higher-tier trash mob.

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

I wonder if it's unintentional and will be fixed in a patch. Pure RNG cancelling out good loot for an entire playthrough isn't exactly SOP for Elden Ring.

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

That looks good as well, I'll move the flame knight by the lift to farm status. It's past time for a change from Blasphemous Blade and nothing else has stuck so far, even post-nerf.

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

Apparently only the knight in the church drops it. He also drops the shield, which evidently is how I got that, which also means I'll never get the weapon this playthrough since he never respawns. Stupid.
  37. Z

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

Does that actually drop from the mounted knights that are all over the place? I've murdered a ton of them and got a shield once, never a weapon.

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

If there's truly only one viable build for the final boss, it seems likely he'll get nerfed. And I may just need to get some more blessings levels. I'm "only" 7 at the moment and the instant that fuck Messmer decides it's time for me to die, it's over. Of course, I somehow got him down to 10%...
