    Superhero Novels

Not sure if you read it yet, but it was among my favorites of 2013. In terms of superhero books I also readThe Violent Centuryby Lavie Tidhar which was also pretty good. The writing is very strange (and fairly annoying) but the content of the story was great.

    Scott Lynch (Gentlemen Bastards)

Ooops. Well, either way the point is approximately the same. Cliff hangers with long waits would annoy me a bit more, because by the time the next book has come out I've forgotten how the previous one ended.

    Scott Lynch (Gentlemen Bastards)

What I don't understand is how the anticipation of what happens next could be so painful to you for two years and then you can just turn it off, and decide you are no longer interested. I haven't read any of these books since the first one (which I didn't like but that isn't the point) but it...

    What did you just read?

I just finished The Fractal Prince by Hannu Rajaniemi, the sequel to the The Quantum Thief which has been recommended here a few times. Overall, I loved both books. They are intensely post-human, with the line between technology and biology blurred to the point of non-existence. This...

Book of the Month - Merged

I finished it last week sometime. Overall I liked it, but I'll post a more in depth comment when I get home from work today.

The King Henry Tapes (By Me!)

Any update on possibly releasing a print version? I think I am the only person around here that doesn't have an e-reader.

What is Steve Albini's best band?

I was a never a big fan of any of his music, but he recorded/produced many of my favorite albums.

April Book of the Month Poll

The print version of Blood Song doesn't come out until July (at least according to Amazon) any way we could sideline it until then? I doubt I am the only one without an ereader.

How many books can you read at a time and the ereader/tablet curse

I can only keep up with one book at a time, unless it is Short Story September, then I like to have collections by a couple different authors going. Also, I never got into ebooks. I have enough regular books to read for the next couple years, and I'm never so excited about a book that I need...

    The Sci-Fi Book Thread

That does look like an interesting list, but a bit lacking. They chose "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" and "Supertoys Last All Summer Long" because they have movies based on them, they are far from the best by Dick and Aldiss. "'Repent Harlequin!' Said the Ticktockman" is similarly...

    The Sci-Fi Book Thread

PKD is certainly my favorite scifi author. The Man Who Japed is one of few books that I haven't read, though. In his case, the most popular novels are the definitely among the best (A Scanner Darkly and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch are probably my favorite.) Out of the less popular...

    DmC: Devil May Cry

Just finished the game and I really enjoyed. It is difficult for me to compare it to the original Devil May Cry (mainly for the sentimental value), but I can't understand all of the negative reviews it is getting from Devil May Cry fans.

I haven't read anything by Tad Williams, but I'll probably pick those up if I see them anywhere. My favorite "cyberpunk" novel is definitely Schismatrix by Bruce Sterling. There are also a few short stories in the same universe which are equally good, and there is a publication (Schismatrix...

Do you mean the just the book or the whole series? For the sake of clarity, Dune, Dune Messiah, and God Emperor of Dune are great. Children of Dune must be read for the benefit of God Emperor but it is worth it. Frank Herbert has many more worthwhile reads. I particularly liked the...

January Book of the Month: Old Man's War by John Scalzi

I just read this book a few months ago, but I'll try to participate. This was also the only book we tried to read as a group on FoH, and it quickly failed (but there were a lot of negative nancys).

    Do you sneak into movies?

One time I went to an R rated movie with my brother. He was 18 and I was 22, but he had forgotten his ID. If I had been 23 I would have been allowed to vouch him in, but they wouldn't let him in. I returned both of our tickets and then we snuck in. That was more of a moral thing, though...

    Learning Programming on Your Own

Over the past couple years I have been learning Perl on my own, as well as a few other things. I used to use at work for data processing (mostly to simplify tasks etc) but I recently accepted a new job where I won't be using it anymore. The nice thing about this new job is that I will be...

Does anyone else useGoodreads? I've really enjoyed M. John Harrison, both the Kefahuchi Tract series and the novels from Viriconium that I have read so far. Greg Bear has always been good. Forge of God/Anvil of Stars has probably been my favorite from him.
