Interesting point, when you think about it. Curt, in your development are you considering the potential impact "farming" may have on the game?

I dunno. Tad basically asked for "substance." I would like to see more too. Talk is indeed cheap. What Curt has done in the baseball world is irrelevent to the MMO world. I am "hoping" for a good product, but at this moment that is all I can do. Hope. I am still cutting 38S Slack, but I do want...

Can"t swear to the accuracy, but heard an analyst say GTA4 has earned over $500 million so far. Not a MMO, but damn that is some serious money.

I don"t play these games to play house.

    WOW at the moment ;p

Personally I"m of the view that they should just have two classes, tank and healer with either able to do customized sub-abilities.

But as for the whole advent of raiding? I submit that EQ was the genesis for the raid encounter as being the endgame play. Raiding was an afterthought when EQ came. You had 2 world monsters, that was it. And the original intent was to make them basically a serverwide event to kill. Planes and...

K scratching my head on that one. Can"t think of another PVE game pre EQ that expanded the whole "raid" scene. P.S., Curt it is ok if you call certain people dumbfucks in this thread, myself included if you wish ;p

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Pains me to say this, but I kind of agree with Tad ;p It becomes rather tiresome in all these MMOs that you always NEED certain classes to do the good stuff. And that always boils down to tank/healer. I"ve wasted more time looking for either one of those than anything. And I submit what caused...

It might be apples to oranges when concerning the degree of the harshness of given games" pvp to each other, but when discussing which has larger market appeal, the answer seems obvious, which is what we were discussing.

Watching CNBC now and they just had a segment on MMORPGS. They even mentioned Curt"s name, so Curt you might want to get a replay of it. The analysts were basically arguing how MMORPGS would wipe out the console market heheh.

When I got ganked with zero chance of survivability I shrugged. But when you entered a red zone from a safe zone there absolutely was more excitement to it. I had many "fair" fights and they were a hell of a lot of fun. I left the pvp server for the pve one once they started the whole...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Wussyboy ;p Tho actually I never liked the harsh pvp ruleset games either. I really do like how WOW set it up where you can go pvp server and fight, or you can go pve server and explore the content and again pvp brought through their BGS and Arenas, except they need to expand those damn maps...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

No, the vast majority on the pvp servers knew exactly what it was, a pvp server where you can kill each other while playing the game. The people who went PVE wanted to just play the game with out fear of being randomly attacked. The whole point of the game is Horde vs. Alliance, but there was a...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Well at least now you are discussing. But you still, as others, ignore the fact that HALF the servers were PVP from DAY ONE. Those on the pvp servers were killing each other as they leveled and still do so to this date. Blizzard EVENTUALLY decided to institute the honor system and then BGs. And...

And all the gear that can now be gotten. Yup, they couldn"t care less ;p And yeah I always give Blizzard hell for the dearth of new content.

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

That is actually a point I can"t disagree with.
  18. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Not to James. But I would argue the other way around from your point. That WOW was a pvp game with half its servers pvp. And that they ultimately added pvp to the pve servers via BGs and arenas. THAT tells you where the focus eventually lies.
  19. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

No, you just do what you always like to do. Ignore what people are saying, butt in and spew crap.

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Let"s see BECAUSE I SAID OVER AND OVER THAT IS WHERE THE MARKET LIES. I can do caps too you friggin dickhead.

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

You actualy reading the posts or is it selective? Of course it is, I forgot who I am talking to. You miss where I said do BOTH but make pvp the primary? And you think pve draws same numbers as pvp? Look in the mirror when you call people retarded.

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Kind of repeating myself but it is easy to do in a thread with a million pages. Name me these types of games" largest age bracket GROWTH market. I say it is the teens/20s. I also say people in that bracket prefer pvp more than farming gold, or camping mobs or doing instances over and over. I say...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Oh I am not saying AOC or WAR will be great games. I have no idea since I am not in beta in either. Tho I do hope. But the larger market has been and always will be in the pvp theatre and those two are the ones on the horizon. Take pvp away from WOW players and they have to go elsewhere. And...
  24. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Well let"s see. Figure half the servers and players are on pvp servers. Guess they leave. And I would submit half on pve servers really prefer the pvp more than the pve, but they just don"t like the griefing and ganking of a pvp server. So I would wager 3/4 s. And stop being obtuse. What I said...

That sort of happened to me in UO. I first log into the game, some guy runs up to me and begs me to help him kill ratman. I like a jerk follow, get mugged in the cemetary and stand there as a ghost watching the muggers loot my corpse ;p

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

First lets stick with the NA/EU numbers since they are less vague than the Asian ones. So we are talking currently 4.5 million. Obviosuly "what ifs" will only be that "what if." Impossible to prove. But dam straight you remove the pvp from WOW, subs would crash and WAR or AOC becomes king.
  27. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

You were getting the same whine about dead pve servers too. But the fact remains about half the playing population is on a pvp server. Check the high/low stats Blizzard lists. And on the PVE servers you have people, umm, pvping too. Remove it to a sole PVE game and you darn well know the subs...
  28. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

I guess you forget all the whining on the WOW forums by people saying how there was nothing to do once they hit 60 huh? And yes the well made and polished game did continue drawing the kids who wanted to blow each other up.
  29. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

What the heck are you talking about, half the servers at launch was pvp. And when a month or two passed the people on the pve servers were becoming bored. Enter BGs and then Arenas to entertain them. And what kept drawing new numbers? It sure as hell wasn"t the high level raid game since most...
  30. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

The polish and well made aspect kept the players, but it was the pvp that drew all those kids from Bnet. That"s not to say that others didn"t come just for the PVE, but no way they pull the subs if it was advertised as a PVE game. You want to compete with WOW you HAVE to do both, but with...
  31. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

If pve sells MMOs then where are they? EQ? LOTRO? VG? Which ones are players looking at more, WAR and AOC. Go ahead make that PVE game and scratch your head when the subs stay low. I sure as hell didn"t buy WOW for its PVE. I bought it because I could do BOTH pve and pvp without being griefed to...
  32. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

I say it like it is true because it IS true. Name me ONE pure pve game that comes even close to WOW numbers. And don"t say WOW, because it is in essence a pvp game. The draw to WOW was never ever it"s raid end game, and if you think otherwise you are deluding yourself. You take away all the pvp...
  33. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Then I submit you become niche if you make it pve centric. Kids want to kill each other. It"s the older crowd that probably prefers the pve path, but as said earlier that isn"t where the growth lies.
  34. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Thing is Curt already set that as his goal, to be top-dog. If he just copies WOW with a few tweaks, that just gets me to play some until WOW"s next expansion (tho at Blizzard"s rate that might still work out ok for S38). The game, however, will need more than just cloning, and it needs to be pvp...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Those 50 year olds were already playing at younger ages to begin with. But the age group for actual growth (meaning NEW 50 year olds playing) is just not going to happen in large percentages (tho Wii from an exercising perspective might have a shot). In the end the investor/producer wants to...
  36. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Oh I am not saying as we age we stop playing. But as an older age group our market doesn"t really grow. It is not as if a bunch of 50 year olds up and decide to play MMOs.
  37. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Maybe, maybe not. The growth isn"t with the 30s, 40s, 50s etc., it is and always will be with the teens and 20s. I submit that a bunch of 40 year olds will have a tougher time making a game that enitices the younger crowd simply by virtue of the generation gap. Tis why I said and still think the...
  38. M

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

No, all it proves is that s38 couldn"t get the job done. Potential investors are always there. You want safety, put your money in Treasury Bills and earn 1-4.5 % (depending on length). Safe return, but in the end a loss after taxes and inflation. Venture Capitalists don"t want that safe return...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Assuming by fail you mean they can"t recoup costs and operating expenses, the impact on the genre would be nil. Just another game people wasted money on. Movie sucks, you don"t get a refund, and producers will still produce as long as there is a decent chance of recouping costs and even making a...
