Sure, their EPA and YPC got worse in the run game, I agree. But they also got way better in the passing game when you consider how much teams were throwing on them because they were behind. Yet, they still improved over last year.

You knew what you were getting in Wilks. Everybody knew he was a secondary specialist and that's exactly what we got. Lenior and Ambry Thomas were fucking trash prior to Wilks getting here. Lenior was a total stud by the end of the season and Thomas still isn't amazing, but he was much improved.

I'm not going to say Wilks is some defensive genius and an amazing DC. There's a reason he has been one and done with so many teams. But it's completely obvious he's the scapegoat and the lamb that Kyle is giving the players to slaughter.
I just don't think it has anything to do with being a sacrificial lamb, and more that Shanahan simply doesn't believe in him. Should he have known that when he hired him, knowing his philosophy was so different than what they had been doing? Quite possibly. But at least he is taking the corrective action now.

JimmyG about to loose a bunch of money. $11m roster bonus once they cut him. Now the raiders will be able to void his $11m 2024 guaranteed salary due to the suspension unless they are feeling particularly generous towards him.

How can people be so fucking stupid? I wouldn't even take a tylenol without making sure it didn't violate league policy.

Raiders usually don't catch good news like this. Thanks Jimmy for taking all that unauthorized viagra for your bunny ranch trips. If they give him that 11+ million that's wild he already fleeced us for plenty as it is.

Puka's a fucking dog. Best pre week 1 fantasy add I ever made. I will draft that mofo again next year.
How does a guy fall all the way to the 5th round and then dominate the NFL as a rookie? The whole scouting/draft system is a sham.

Probably a mix of "forest" (actually looking at the player) vs "trees" (fotm analytics/measurables) and dumb luck. Whoever pushed for drafting Puka will probably get his next 10 choices unquestioned and they will all be busts.

That happens all the time. Seems like a wide receiver should be easier to spot than a QB though.
Zach Wilson is not the same as your typical first round QB draft fizzle/bust though. There was an abundance of evidence available that he would struggle to make the transition to professional level play but scouts sat on it and instead manufactured false hype to push up his draft capital. I think I've brought it up before but there was a retired scout who got an article published before the draft citing the problems he showed in college and flat out said he'd be a bust, presumably being retired is what left him feeling free to tell the truth. Or hell if I wanna go full tin-foil hat, maybe it was something of a conspiracy to try and sucker one of the more poorly ran franchises into wasting a valuable draft pick.

Granted even someone like Mahomes might have ended up looking like shit if he hadn't lucked out of getting picked by one of the shit tier teams at the top of the draft (in his case he dodged the Bears) but with Wilson it was more like a final nail in the coffin. Maybe a better run franchise could have at least developed him to the point of being a tolerable backup but I see that as having been his absolute best case scenario.

In many cases? Smaller schools, thus scouts unsure about competition they faced even if they had good/great production. I remember seeing a video of their draft room when they were thinking about picking him and McVay was already talking about how he blocks and how they can use him directly in the run game. It's crazy to see certain coaches/talent evaluators who can just already have a plan and vision for certain guys that go in the mid to late rounds and watch it be spot on right.

This is pretty good. Worth watching them, and they are only a few seconds each.
