it seems there is a mini game of filament management where you have to constantly keep it dry

Eh. I keep all mine in a cupboard with all the silica that comes in the packaging.

Haven't had any issues at all, and its been humid around here for awhile.

3D printing can be very time intensive depending on what you are doing, how often you use it and how good you want your prints to look.

I haven't any major problems with pla. Get some minor stinging you can easily remove after it's been out but part integrity is fine.

Has anyone found any good AI stl generators?
Chatgpt had been able to generate me some very basic stuff.

so first 2 weeks w/ a 3d printer has been pretty set and forget, first things i printed were for the printer, a scraper, a poop chute, i bought dessicant and printed out spool holders for it. tried the vacuuming bags, 3/10 failed, i'll just do cereal storage.

decided to try my hand at cad (it's been since high school since i touched cad), decided right away i needed a 3d space mouse, saw i could print one out

i'm gonna wire it up tonight, there were other ones i was interested in that used hall effect switches, but this one had a more straight forward guide, i just wanted to get it up and running.

some organizational things like a under table keyboard drawer and stuff, really what i wanted it for, just to organize shit.

so far i've been tackling this
1012955dd331c0ec2bca0a3b1eaa6076.jpg

it's basically a nice clean way to store your folded tshirts, idk how many i've printed out, maybe 30? each one takes like 1hr 16 to print out, to try to cut down that time i got rapid pla filament, that only took out 3 minutes, and i put the machine on "ludicris" speed, that cut it down to 1:06, but it moves like it's possessed, my desk is literally moving away from the wall, i had to put weights at the feet to halt the poltergeisting.

my nephew asked me about doing warhammer minis but i'm pretty sure thats more for a resin printer

so i print in my den, sometimes i sleep there, that means i'll have a humidifier goin, and of course thats the opposite of what you want for the filaments, so far i've upgraded from a single spool dryer to a 4 spool dryer, it makes sense since mine is multicolor anyway and i guess it's just nice ams. i haven't done multicolor i don't care for it so far, but i do like that it will "autofeed when filament runs out".

it seems half the shit you print out, you print out for the fucking printer, i had to print out a grease tool, then all these tools need to go somewhere so i print out a side mounted tool holder, then i have to fix this issue where the fucking table is possessed when i put it on ludicris mode, so i printed out new feet and started to work w/ tpu. i couldn't get the tpu to print, was it a profile? was it not hot enough? turns out even if a spool comes in sealed w/ dessicant, it's still wet, i put the spool in the dry and 4hours later it fed fine. the tpu feet work somewhat, but i think i'm going to build a floating shelf for it. no idea how to build a shelf tho

Thinking about pulling the trigger on an X2D. Our first 3d printer. Trying not to just yolo it, since this is a bit more involved than buying paper and hitting print 🤣. Then again, 3 of the 4 kids have been exposed to 3d printing at school and could take to it too, which could be fun.

I got the X2D / AMS2 Pro combo a couple weeks ago. It's very nice. Huge upgrade to my Bambu P1P.

i'm still printing closet organizational stuff, wife has gone ham on clothing.

and in a day or 2 i'm just gonna print a boring ass blind addition,

i'm testing out honeycomb blinds in my room and i'm unhappy w/ the amount of light seeping thru, and just thought, i could probably print something, and theres someone who already thought the same thing

so what i've learned is that the 3d printer, (after you fawn over it for a few days printing out gobs of stuff) is that it's good to have for what you can print, rather than what you want to print.

like a week ago, i was reeling out my hose, and it sputtered and broke, rather than buying a new reel, i thought, someone must have had this happened to them too? and yup, i just printed out a replacement part.

I have definitely made a ton of stupid toys and trinkets for the kids, but I do a lot of organizing things like Lanx mentions(mostly tool/hardware organizing in my garage and office). I've been making some custom LED signs for different bands / the kids' names(pics below). Jigs for woodworking, replacing parts for appliances. Maybe some firearm related things... Having a decent grasp on CAD designs really makes having a 3D printer 1000 times more fun.

Also Amod Amod the file size limitation on this website is so insanely retarded that I'm practically speechless. A 2.7 MB gif is too large in 2026. Pathetic.

For those who have not gotten one, the new Snapmaker is fucking amazing and super easy to get running. Probably the best printer in my wife's lab. Just get the metal hot ends/nozzles for it asap and you literally never need to do anything else with it.

Don't you remember that wheel that Lightning Lord Rule Lightning Lord Rule installed behind the Amod Amod outhouse years ago? Every spin is supposed to increase the upload limit for the entire forum by a byte, yet nobody ever wants to spin it.
