Definitely a great game! I stopped playing due to the hackers on the server I got established on.

I had not played this since the patch that made the mobs able to find you regardless of where you were (just seemed to me that was a bit of a cheezy way to go about it). I did like what had been done up to that point though. I had kinda hoped it would end up being a kind of 1st person zomboid. The z axis pathing had issues though, so underground bunkers were a bit broken. Other than that.. ya it had a lot of good ideas.

Alpha 12 is patching, now with mini-bikes, more physics and bears! Id be interested setting up some base of operations on a multiplayer server with some rerolled folks

I picked this up during the steam summer sale. I've had a ton of fun with it so far (~20 hours). Alpha 12 looks good. Shame I'm out of town away from my desktop for a month.

I loaded up cheat mode single player just to try out the motorscooter. You need the chassis 1st, then seat, handlebars, wheels, battery, and engine to make a working scooter. 1 can of gas = half a tank. It goes pretty fast and if you run over any npcs, they die instantly. The scooter can get damaged and it is on a per-part basis. Pretty cool addition, although you would need to hide it after you log out ;p

I thought I'd bump this up again since Alpha 13 is out, stable, and kicks a lot of ass. I'd recommend picking it up, especially if you see it pop up on the steam holiday sale.

I've been playing it on and off through the Alphas, Alpha 15 looks good and is rock solid in terms of stability. The addition of npcs and new zombie types is nice, it's certainly come a long way since my last post (Alpha 11 I think), but has a way to go yet.

PS4 version here. Any chance I could assemble 3 others for some 2v2 PvP? I'm pretty skilled. Fresh server. Difficulty and map can be discussed. Figured it could be a Saturday thing.

Winners take out both Land Claim blocks of opposing team.

Not sure if any of you play this anymore, but the A16 (PC) update is in experimental and should be live in the next week or two.

My personal experience so far is that this update is amazing. No longer are cities in a rectangular grid. They feel much more organic. The mechanics for zombies are significantly changed (sleeping zombies in all POI's mean you have to actually clear buildings), the heat map is changed, pigs (now hogs) fight back, wolves and vultures (to replace bees) have been added (vultures are fucking deadly).

The two biggest changes are electricity, which I haven't been able to play with much outside of cheat mode to see how it works, and hub cities. Electricity is fun as fuck to play with. You can set up trip wires, timers, and pressure plates to do things (activate traps, sound an air horn, turn on lights). The new traps are fucking cool, including a giant spinning blade.

The hub cities are an even cooler change, as essentially buildings become mini-dungeons. The skyscrapers in particular are fucking giant. I haven't actually had a chance to explore one (just heard on Discord as they cleared). The one they were in was setup to look like survivors had inhabited it, including setting up their own traps. It took 2 guys 2 in game days to clear it. There are also bosses in these dungeons. The one building I went through was a 5 or 6 story Crack-A-Book. Talk about schematics for days.

They also revised the skills system. No more spam crafting to raise tool/weapon crafting. Everything is bought with skill points now.

I'm also pretty sure there was a decent graphics update because it looks way better now. A lot of that may have to do with the buildings being updated, as everything looks much cleaner.

I highly recommend checking it out again once A16 is official, if you ever had any fun playing it previously. Keep in mind this is PC only though. Consoles are, I believe, at around the A14 era of content.

Any chances something like this hits console? I really enjoy this game and play it a couple of times a week.

I don't follow the console releases, but I'd say it's quite a ways off. A15 was around for like a year. And like I said in the above post, I think consoles are on an equivalent to A14.

Picked this up. Built a few things. Found a supermarket. Ran into a bunch of zombies to get released from this game.

I'm not sure what I'm missing, but it feels like Minecraft with a bunch of generic mechanics and sloppy controls. Like, I don't want to explore, I don't want to build, I don't want to fight zombies, I just don't get the draw of the game.

Have you made it 7 days yet?

Building a base to last the 7 day onslaught is the draw. Getting the ability to construct concrete early makes the game super easy. Once you do that, construct a furnace near the surface to attract screamers (I think they appear 14 or 21 days in) and farm the hordes. That will net you a healthy supply of food, guns and ammo. Once you’re well equipped, then going out for a few days travel is fun.

Not for you then. The draw is it has a leveling system where you spend points to unlock skills and you explore for mats and books to learn recipes. You build your base up ( or down into the earth ) to ward off zombie attacks which become harder each in game passing week so you constantly improve and upgrade your armor, weapons and defenses.

It isn't for everyone, pretty much only survival game lovers will like it.

The main draw of the game is building and exploring, so if you don't like either, game won't offer too much.

They also haven't patched the game since like October. They got pretty lazy update wise when they released it for Xbox.

I'm holding off playing this again until Alpha 17. They messed up a lot of stuff in Alpha 16: AI pathing, smell detection to name a couple. Plus in Alpha 17 they are removing the "wellness" mechanic thankfully, and revamping the skill system.

Anyone still messing around with this? I picked it up because it was dirt cheap on GMG, was super frustrating at first, especially the first time I got shit stomped by the 7th night horde. I had built a little wooden shack on top of hill and surrounded it with a handful of spikes, figuring that was good enough. Boy was I shocked when I gave in and looked up videos of what people actually build to survive the blood moon hordes, lol. So on my current playthrough my primary base is the ramshackle house just west of the farm, which I repaired and added a sublevel to (and then started mining underneath it, fairly rich iron deposits. I built a 5x5 watchtower platform out of flagstone near a rural area to the west and surrounded it with thick spike trap patterns, the first horde I exploited the fact that zombies cant attack upwards to stay safe up there, after that I built a ramp with a gap that zombies can't get across. Was kinda funny, after the horde attack petered out on the 14th night I quit to take a break. When I loaded the game (still during the 14th night) the horde started right back up again and I was almost out of crossbow bolts. Thankfully I brought an SMG as a backup, although they probably would have died to spikes before they were able to break reinforced flagstone blocks.

The fact that the game differentiates between iron smelted into the forge and iron in your inventory is super annoying, I ended up building a second forge just to use for making cement, which I recently learned how to craft. I've been slowly replacing the wooden blocks of my starter house with concrete, turning it into a bunker. Might try defending the 28th night horde from here, but I doubt it will be ready in time for the 21st night. Anyway, surprisingly engaging game, despite how godawful ugly it is. Has the deeper crafting system I wanted out of Subnautica, even if the exploration aspect isn't nearly as fun.

I haven't played in at around a year (since I think update 17 came out?), but I've got something like 300 hours in the game.

I've made some pretty ridiculous bases, like a massive 2 tier concrete fall pit from the surface to bedrock. The problem becomes once you build something like that, the game is basically afk afterwards, because there isn't shit surviving that (you just repair when cops blow up).
