I don't really see that actually happening. I see a lot of media hype and tech-buzzword-of-the-day gritting.
Image generation in particular seems to be the one that's the least interesting so far; it just kind of makes the same stuff over and over again.

I think I've hit the limits of my GPU, and while making pretty maidens is interesting, It doesn't really help me with my work.
I need animation extraction. Like show the AI a short animated clip and it extracts keyframes in some kind of standard format. Bips or collada or something.
The texturing of 3d objects sounds cool. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I'm guessing it will need more vram than I have.

Hype around it has died down a bit but as a tech it's here to stay. Some of the fluff will be shaken out and actually useful implementations will arise. As much as I've contributed to it, people posting endless AI generated images is a fluff implementation. It's like the thread with all the ChatGPT stories that no one reads, it won't last in that form because it's not useful.
Turning Rambo into a woman is fun but it's not the peak of the tech anymore than doorknob.com was the peak of the internet.

Few more, trying to get some to show off the sharp details it does now. I'm having to resize them a bit since they are too large to attach so a little is lost.
It's also gotten a bit better at following instructions, easier to get what you are going for although holding things correctly still seems to be a luck of the draw.
