the fact that you can decompile any game and recreate it slightly different from the original content and potentially rewrite it all in webassembly is pretty damn rad.

now everyone here can stop bitching about everquests spiritual successor and just remake it with modern graphics with slightly different lore.

Have you played any of the reverse engineered games?

I briefly looked and couldn't find someone talking about how complete they are, just that they ran like shit and were glitchy.

I never played SimCity2000, but I played a lot of SimCity4. Have you played City2026 and SimCity2000? Just visually it looks very different.

Here's a quick review, pretty impressive. I'd be interested to see if anyone is trying to vibe code large changes to it.

yeah but thats the idea to get around IP issues or larger companies taking down these decompiled games. to turn it into something slightly different with the same functionality.

functionality wise its the same game. Its just visually different.

edit: the creator even shared his workflow. pretty awesome

Claude the game is glitchy and runs like shit, fix it

I'd be lying if that wasn't an actual prompt that would give solid results. I'm using Claude to develop two games and it will play test the game and see those issues too. Just a matter of time before we are fucked.

Yeah, the first time claude took over my screen and visually monitored a problem I was having and then fixed it via that method I was like "o fuck...." 😆

It's insane that Micron is allowed to have a monopoly in the states.

Micron has no monopoly, they have two competitors that sell in the states. Its a brutal time for anyboy that wants to buy PC memory, but this is what capitalism is. And capitalism is why this whining douche in the video was able to build gaming rigs so cheaply and build a business off them to begin with. I watched the first 3 minutes of the video - guy is whining about companies who can't meet customer demand are allocating their resources to make as much money as they can, how evil! Then the guy pauses his regularly scheduled whining to fit in a minute or two of trying to sell you multiple pieces of garbage himself. How dare the memory companies make money! But I will gladly sell trash to my viewers...capitalism is for me, not for thee.

Bottom line of memory is this - for a looong time, memory was viewed as a commodity. There was a lot more memory supply than demand at times, consumers benefited, and many memory manufacturers went out of business. Did anybody cry for these companies that tried to have successful businesses but could not, yet were part of the availability of cheap RAM for consumers? No. But these final 3 memory companies who ran their businesses better than the others endured the risk, were left standing, and are currently big beneficiaries of the memory crunch.

It seems the crunch isn't being alleviated any time soon - but more players will enter the memory game, the market will lead to a lot more investment and potentially breakthroughs. For example - its a ways off but it seems a good bet Musk will try to allocate some portion of his Terrafab to DRAM. Consumers will benefit in the end.

Didn't they get sued by the feds for cartel like behavior and suppressing competition a while back?

Cartels really shouldn't exist in a truly capitalistic society. Trust busting also isn't anti capitalist. It's a governmental correction that's required, so markets operate properly.

Furthermore memory is a commodity. It's standardized and you can use memory from other brands without issue as it's standardized. Right now it's hard to look at this and no see downstream collusion in an attempt to destroy the consumer sector, so they can collect infinite subscriptions for the rest of time for the privilege of using a service may it be gaming or ai or just silly old compute.
