My wife and I both said the same thing when watching it. "Why are scientists not using basic biological protection".

"Because we don't know what's out there" (One scene)----->(Next Scene) Goes out there with no protection on.

The fuck man....

1. Don't have a huge over the top plot attempt like in Prometheus
2. Kill people with aliens

Think of it as a porno, except you have alien gore and horror replacing (some of) the sex scenes. Similar amounts of plot.

Wasn't there a sequel to Aliens in the works that ignored Alien 3? Even had Biehn. What happened to that?

Who cares if WE know that protective gear doesn't do shit to stop them, THEY don't know that and it completely kills any sci-fi immersion when they fuck off with the "sci" part of your sci-fi. Once that is done, we're left with shitty fiction.

There were two sequels in the works and both were put on indefinite hold to not overlap with this shitshow. The director has basically moved on and no longer has time even if they greenlight the films again after this failure.

Yeah, they were being done by Neill Blomkamp which also has some definite hit and miss potential. If he could get a decent writer and just focus on shooting action (look at District 9 and tell me he wouldn't have made a badass Halo movie!) I think it could have ended up great. The good thing is there is actually tons of material between the comics and novels of Aliens that you could either use that or cut/paste ideas and still end up with good content. As someone had mentioned, it is very analogous to George Lucas shitting on the Star Wars IP for so long when there are so many (easily) cool stories to tell.

I was largely alluding to the Earth War series (by Steve Perry), which is the story I'd prefer they make. You could edit that down (chop out the bullshit where Ripley shows back up) and have a pretty awesome story. Cultist break-in to a research facility and become infested then spread out to major population centers before birthing "the Messiah". Alien hives spring up in NYC, London, etc. and the movie ends with the last base being overrun as a drop ship leaves Earth. Next movies are all about us taking it back.

edit: Oh yeah, cut out that bullshit in the story where that crazy General was training aliens to shoot guns by holding a queen hostage. Lol, almost forgot about how retarded that was.

Oh, god, the Nightmare Asylum story - ugh. That was terrible.

It's especially upsetting for me knowing this is last one I'll likely see. Alien ( 7 yrs old )scared the shit out of me when I was kid. Aliens(14) made me fall in love with futuristic Sci-Fi at a time when I had been far more into medieval/fantasy things and books, that and ST TNG/SW stuff in between those years.
I know it isn't a popular opinion but hey they are like assholes after all. I thought Prometheus was ok. It wasn't great but it was ok to me, which is better than most think.
It had plot flaws, filming flaws and cgi errors and mistakes and some piss poor acting for the cast it had, but it tied in just how all the aliens and life and the universe worked. Fine.
Now they going to tell me instead of moving on from that fuckup we are not only getting more fuckups but even a more unthinkable story obviously written by people on more medication than even I am?

The 2 things I noticed on first watching of Prometheus that really got under my skin was the face masks where in one scene they were all moisture and fogged then a second later at another angle clean as a whistle. That is complete laziness.
The other being weed doctor and his buddy who got lost when they specialize exploring shit.
Lots of other issues but even I who misses 99% of details in movies on first watching caught it, how the fuck did it exit the editing room.

The two dudes getting lost completely fucks Prometheus forever. It was what, 10 minutes prior to that they showed them mapping literally the entire structure with their future drones? Come the fuck on.

Ya, it was very dumb.
I guess the writers baked out of their mind had to find a way to split them so they could do something even more stupid, plus work in space slut scene on the bridge, but the whole series of scenes was unneeded to begin with. Since the andriod ends up being the real asshole of the bunch. You could remove them being snake fucked and getting lost and just had them killed on the ship with the other stupid shit going on and the story would have been arguably better.

It's even got an extra layer of dumb. Everyone is giving the order to return to the ship through their communication system and those guys just didn't get the message somehow? We aren't shown a seen in which communications are blocked so either they ignored the order or the ship just decided to not include them in the communication.

Preventing shit like that from happening is actually a dedicated, credited position on a film crew (continuity supervisor). They're supposed to make sure shit like wardrobe, hair, makeup, props, and set pieces emain consistent from shoot to shoot, since you're often joining fragments of multiple shoots taken over the course of hours of even days into a single scene during the editing process. They must have hired a half-blind one.
