I don't care for his hot takes that often, I just figured somebody was going to end up posting it and I would save them the time.
There are elements of the show that are really well done, and most of the acting is really good, and I said it before it looks amazing, except the alien.
It's just the plot is so stupid. It didn't necessarily seem that way in the beginning but as the show is progressed, it's definitely gone off the rails.
Whatever, now I find it just to be funny, and I'll watch the last episode to see how spectacularly hilarious it concludes. It's also a TV show so you've got to come up with contrivances to advance the plot versus maybe just having done a mini series or something with a nice tight script. But then you look at a show like true detective season 1, and I dare you to try to find fault with that. A good TV show can be done, it just takes competent people.
He's also not wrong when he mentions with all of the people involved somebody didn't say what the hell are we doing.
Pretty sure I said at one point it was too many cooks in the kitchen or stupid writers room bullshit.

I don't know, that stupid Romulus movie was pretty bad, but I think this is definitely worse. It's been downhill since the fourth movie.

I bought a copy on DVD. I know your pain. Apparently there were also a bunch of deleted scenes that were present in the original trailer which made it actually look pretty good.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but when he tries to portray this as the worst slop ever, he's just wrong. It's moderately entertaining and blow average overall. It's not even the worst of aliens content, so how can it compete for the worst of ALL content.

It's not just drinker. All the comic sphere people are shitting on this. I don't really see why. I love the action and gore. I am enjoying this more than any Alien project besides Aliens. This is way more entertaining to watch than the original Alien.
Sure some of the plot points are dumb but who cares? It's a fun show with great sets, interesting characters, awesome monsters, and a fun cast.
There's no lesbian space witches or insulting agenda pushing like most Disney garbage. The Peter Pan allegory isn't insulting at any point and sort of adds a little flavor to the show. The pet names are hilarious, boy Kavalier as a mad scientist Peter is pretty funny. Him killing a bunch of kids to make lost boy robots is really creepy. Them finding their graves and going haywire was awesome. Morrow as captain hook with his cyborg arm was pretty cleverly done too. Kirsch is odd as a Roy Batty clone but it's obviously done to clue in less knowledgeable people that this is taking place in the blade runner universe. Your random casual fan will get it but how many casual fans are there of a 40yo movie? Certainly not most 20 somethings.
Drinker and his ilk make their living insulting other people's work so this is just another day at the office for him. As an actual fan I want to see more stuff like this made, not less. This shits all over any Disney starwars or Rings of power feminist garbage. It's fun and well made even if half the characters are retarded. Most characters in horror movies are retarded. They have to be for the monsters to not get blown away by the whole armed town anywhere in the USA where every other house has a military grade arsenal in their closet.

I mean you can have this wacky stuff in those two types of stories, but it simply just doesn't work out with this IP. The writing is pretty on par for Aliens and the themes of corporate greed, humanism, unchecked science. The writing is all there, it fails in some places but from that perspective its average. Don't confuse writing and acting. The majority of the shows problems are an acting problem. The kids are hit or miss with the direction they've been given and their ability to act, the boy genious actor isn't good. the soy boy actor is horrible. But the writing isn't really the problem.

Aliens was the cream of the crop. The only film Id even call good in the franchise. Romulus was awful, I'd say worst but I haven't seen most of the others in so long. Prometheus was okay I guess but not what I would call good. Didn't even feel like an "Alien" film. Covenant was retarded. Alien was slow and boring. The others were all different shades of terrible/boring.
Alien Earth has some lazy writing to advance the plot but it's mystery and action along with great creature designs and special effects at least keep it interesting. I'm definitely looking forward to see how they wrap things up. Although anything short of a nuclear bomb will seem underwhelming at this point.

I'd say Prometheus suffers from the same thing Alien Earth does. Retards. Retards everywhere.
Other then that I think Prometheus is a SOLID 6.5 (not an IMDB scale of 6.5). Entertaining enough for a watch through, and you're probably not going to complain if your girl wants to watch it and you have to sit through it again. But you most likely won't watch it again on your own volition. I'd rate this show, again, a solid 6.5. I wouldn't go out of my way to not recommend it to people and find it entertaining enough that I'm watching premiere nights so there's that.
A good finale could bump it to a 7 or 7.5 for sure.
