Family / Musical. Rated G. Remembered loving this movie as a kid. It's a good measure of the pussification of America. This shit had mobsters, gangsters, smoking, child abandonment/orphan, child neglect and abuse, conspiracy to commit homicide, intentional manslaughter (dog getting hit by a car and drowning), a singing transvestite crocodile, gambling, cheating, racketeering, blackmail. Adult concepts like death, heaven, and hell. Fucking smoking is almost an immediate flag for PG-13 these days. They go through some shit, but the kid ends up getting fostered, the bad guy dies, and the good guy gets to go back to fucking babes in heaven.

I was in an 80s fantasy kick the other day and added Beastmaster to my Plex, shit showed up on my kids profile so I looked and it was rated PG, today it would probably be a hard R, kids today are pussies

I was flipping through the channels a while back and on HBO was Neverending Story with this flying dog creature:

The kids that chase the guy into the trash can are the real assholes. And killing a horse. The fuck, man. Kids movies are so watered down these days. Course there's not really much going on outside Disney...

A movie in which a child battles crippling depression and has to decide whether to go on.

Thanks for these suggestions. Bluth is Titan AE, too.

If anyone else is looking for solid animation for their kids, Studio Ghibli's Porco Rosso, Ponyo, Totoro, Pom Poko, and Howl's are all favorites with mine. Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline, and Song of the Sea are some other non-Pixar/Disney favorites. And the 1985 Transformers movie...Megatron must be stopped...no matter the cost!

If you like this, you should also try The Great Mouse Detective. It's old school, on a similar path to ADGTH.
