I havent seen a thread on this so I figured I would create one.

One of my cousins was staying over and he had a retroid pocket g2, which was a nice little android device that can play PC games and stream games from your desk top. In terms of emulation it can play all of the old consoles, up to some ps3 games.

He was playing GTA 5 installed natively on it and it ran pretty damn good ( about 50-57 fps)

Once I saw what it could do i had to get one.

So I ended up pre ordering their newest one. Ended up buying two of them so me and the wife can play steam games with eachother while shes out or is feeding the newborn.

Theres some pretty insane android consoles out there but this one seems like the best mid range performance one.

Anyone else play around with these things?

how's this different from an android phone and a gaming case w/ buttons?

I mean not much. I personally dont like to have games on my phone though so something like this works for me as a solution.

pretty popular brand: Anbernic | The best retro game console , I own one of the models with the analog sticks, it dual boots between arch and android, can handle port master. great little device for their price. Still want the tiny ass keychain version to plain pinball on...

Pinball you say... This one?

Curious why you'd want it for pinball. I'd assume you'd want something with a portrait resolution and uniform side buttons for that.

I was just looking at how to setup a RPi with Waydroid or something to have an Android game alternative. My case isn’t really pocket or mobile, just needs to sit at my desk.

I use a Retroid Pocket 4+ and I'm more than happy with it. Plays anything Dreamcast and under flawlessly. It can apparently do PS2 and GC but I'm a retroachievements whore and the android emulators for those don't have RA support so I don't use them; I use the Steam Deck for those.

so I got mine and its pretty sick. I am able to play resident evil 2 natively on it which actually looked pretty good on my TV.

however I dont think I need to even play games natively because steam link/streaming works just as good.

Got everything for the most part set up on retroarch as well, been playing PS2 games with widescreen hacks through my TV with the wife, and older daughter.

Pretty sure its gonna replace my switch, I really like the freedom that this gives me when playing retro, and streamed games. Id get a steam deck but honestly I think its too big.

been loving this thing so far. I have my back buttons on the handheld mapped to fast forward/slow motion which makes playing old RPGs more efficient. The one thing I dislike about old rpgs is that they play so slow. Not anymore though. I think I am nearly through all of FF mystic quest and have played it for like 45 mins casually.

so I set up tailscale on my NAS, with a file sync to my retroid the other day. So whenever I want to pull in a backed up game and sync it to my retroid I can do it from anywhere.
