Daniel Day-Lewis is stepping out of retirement after 7 years — and it’s not for just any role. The three-time Oscar winner is making his comeback in Anemone, a deeply personal film directed by his own son, Ronan Day-Lewis.

Since retiring after Phantom Thread in 2017, Day-Lewis has kept a low profile — just like when he became a shoemaker in Italy in the ’90s. Now, he’s back on screen alongside Sean Bean and Samantha Morton in a story about fathers, sons, and second chances.
Glad to see him back! Release date: 10/03/2025 (US).

He's definitely an actor and not a movie star. I just rewatched gangs of New York the other week, and despite its flaws it's still a great movie and one of his best performances.
You see this knife? I'm going to teach you to speak English with this fucking knife!

Bill the Butcher is one of the greatest characters in cinema history, let alone Daniel Day Lewis'.

I'll probably watch that movie once a year. I remember seeing it in the theater or whatever summer or whenever it came out back at college. It's got its flaws but his performance is just amazing. Hands down probably one of the best characters / roles in any movie like you said.

I toss it up there with Gary Oldman in the Dracula remake. I guess that's another movie I will tend to watch once a year, and he just completely transforms into Count Dracula.
