New extraction 3rd person shooter - in beta open test until tomorrow

Seems pretty solid so far - sound design is extremely good

Definitely looks better than Marathon so far. Third person is always a downgrade, but some games it works with and this may be one. The level design is really cool and the atmosphere is awesome. The enemies aren't pushovers either which is great when people are fighting and NPC's get involved.

It's incredibly similiar to The Cycle, but seems to work better. Not sure how.

Ya, if you use low caliber ammo some of the bots are too armored and wont die (Ticks you can still kill easy and the flying guys if you shoot the rotors). But a lot of the silenced weapons use that ammo, so it is a tradeoff. My first matches I mostly did naked rat runs just to try to get loot and get used to the game.

Personally, I think it has a lot to do with that PvP is second to PvE.. there is so much emphasis on a largescale/detailed map, with decent loot sprinkled throughout and engaging PvE encounters that don't feel bullet sponge-y(cough marathon cough) but also monster hunter/souls-likeish(weak points/charging attacks/identifiable move-sets/dodgeroll)... PvP feels less than half the game, but is absolutely a constant looming threat. The Cycle wanted this, they also prioritized PvE as the premiere way to play.. but their map sizes were small and people spawning in regularly; PvP was constant(esp at 20k+ active pop), people were hunting drop pods and gunshots regularly. I personally can't turn away from an extraction alarm going off, or alerted robots, but atleast I can't hunt down peoples spawns in Arc; Tarkov is bad about this too.. With The Cycle high tier areas had high tier mobs that requires medium to high tier gear for any sort of reasonable execution... but Arc has Medium/High tier loot area's with a mixture of low tier and high tier mobs.. there are always lingering Rockeeters, Snitches, Bastions, and Crawlers just moving about but you can evade them.. I want lure nades to work a little bit better because I will get that crawler to jump at a squad if its the last thing I do.

It's also worth noting, both these games didn't start out as a extraction shooter. The Cycle was a BR turned Extraction, and Arc Raider's was a co-op shooter turned extraction. A bit of iteration goes a long way. I've only been apart of Arc for the last two playtests, and they're killing it. I didn't play when it was a co-op shooter though, it stayed as a co-op shooter for the first 2-3 years after its announcement. It was announced in 2021ish, and became an extraction shooter somewhere around 2023.

Apparently people are reporting that Xbox and PS5 are seeing Arc Raiders stuff show up in the store. Word is there will be some type of announcement on June 6th, during the Summer Games Fest show. Embark did suddenly drop The Finals during that show, so it is possible they will either release the full game or perhaps another tech/open test after the show if they pull a similar tactic

Twitch streamer basically confirmed it's launching the 6th but couldn't say how but did the wink wink kind of deal.

October 30, 2025 release date. Kinda kills the hype for me. They had an announcement trailer but it was bad...

Oct 30th means they've got a lot they want to implement still probably, which is good, and they're dodging Tarkov 1.0 launch which will be September. Might be a good time.

They really, really should have another open beta before now and then though to keep people's appetite.

I would imagine once nextfest hit's(Monday), we will get a playtest.. which I think would smart to keep the hype going.. but that is half built on hope.

I just want to see what the "12" maps looks like, even if its 6; it'll be crazy. If all the development stories are to be believed, embark has put a lot into machine learning and ai tech to make the development process to be a lot faster and streamlined. I recently heard that Embark wants to bridge the gap between player and developer with their tools.

Ya, the trailer was pretty dumb and didn't do much to sell the game. Dumb fucks in Asmon's chat with no familiarity with the game kept saying crap like "concord 2" like a bunch of NPC morons lol. Honestly they should have just straight up shown gameplay from actual people playing, it sells the game with just that.

Another large open test this summer would be a good idea for sure to keep hype/interest.

The trailer was dumb, but in game you're basically a post-apocalyptic hobo they send on scavenge runs as a condition to not getting kicked out of the town.

Yep. I was far, far more excited about the game before the most recent trailer.

I'm still likely going to give it a try, but I think the trailer let some air out of the hype.
