Curious to know how much of an impact, if any at all, the P2W aspects of this game are affecting the popularity of the game.

On numerous MMO official message boards, you see players predict doom and gloom, threatening to quit playing, etc if their MMO decides to implement a cash shop, especially if something is sold that is perceived to give the purchaser a significant boost in some aspect of the game. Vitality was probably the most hardcore of all the AAge alpha players on this board and IIRC he stopped playing when Trion announced what all would be in their cash shop.

I was in the alpha but the game didn't appeal to me so I never bothered with playing when it went live. My decision had nothing to do with the game having a P2W cash shop or not. The game seems to be doing OK so is it safe to assume the P2W cash shop had little to no effect on the popularity of the game?

The cash shop part is mostly irrelevant. Whales use sites likehttp://www.playerauctions.com/archeage-gold/

However, the P2W aspect is strong. The cost of gear increases exponentially, but the difference between the 1% and everyone else is huge. If you're a fresh 55 character, you've got like, several months worth of grinding to get gear to be competitive at the high end.

While I agree that such a huge nerf on something that expensive is definitely mind-bogglingly retarded, it can still be rectified with more siege balance changes in a future update, and if no castles get taken in the meantime, eh, not really gamebreaking.

The serpentis regrets, on the other hand, is I think the more pressing issue, since you need them to craft all the new obsidian armor and v2 weapons. If it's an intended change (which seems unlikely considering the new drop rates on abyssal crap) it should at the VERY LEAST been included in the godamn trion-fucks-them-up-every-time patch notes. So, ya know, we could fucking open them before the change.

Trion is now including global auction house access as a Patron benefit.

Which is funny, because modders and hackers have had global auction house access since day one.

Talked to one of my friends in KR about this. Apparently this was an intended change on KR and was never reversed.

Also, regarding the statue Kraken, it only pops at certain times, and there will be a server-wide message when it happens. Apparently there will also be a portal in main cities that takes you there.

The statue Kraken doesn't need to be tanked, but he will chuck tornadoes at ships, though apparently they don't do damage.

Another fishing tourney related question:

I often see people linking "lucky" pink marlin. I've done 4 of these events and I've never caught one, just the usual fry, normal, and gargantuan. Is there some trick to the lucky fish?

1. Wait until a zone is approaching war time
2. Find a pirate friend and get him sent to jail, MUST be a pirate
3. Break him out of jail
4. Teleport him and yourself to the war zone
5. Have your pirate pop the no-honor-loss potion
6. Beat the everliving piss out of your pirate friend. Due to a glitch, he will not be able to die, but every time he takes damage thatshouldkill him, you will gain 40 Honor. (Use Endless Arrows for maximum efficiency.)

By the way, you didn't hear this from me.

Lol, Trion doesn't ban jack. There were people on Aranzeb who got caught using teleport hacks, spawning mobs, hacking regrades, and teleporting entire boats filled with people on them, and the worst they ever got was a 3 day temp ban.

Fun fact: Did you know that regrades are done client-side, and Trion has no way to confirm if you're hacking regrades? All they can see is that you attempted a regrade, succeeded, and have a new item.

Also the people who are still playing this game are probably actually playing the game and not reading the forums. It is castle siege time, after all.
