Sounds like combat is one of the more underwhelming moments for this MMO. Pity. Rift/WoW-like combat isn't the end of the world, but my interest in this MMO seems to hinge upon it's potential than the explicated features. For me, that's normally a bad sign as I generally don't have the patience to wait until their implementation.

Sounds awesome to be honest. Really disappointing it doesn't seem to be doing to well in Korea. Can't wait to play it.

I think I read somewhere that it`s not doing too well because it`s Korean style enough. Which to be honest makes me look forward to the game even more as I have dislike most Korean MMO, because they are just too grindy.

excited for this.
more than wildstar.
I would be way more excited for this then Wildstar if it wasn't for the tab target combat. If the sandbox elements live up to the hype I would be willing to overlook it though. Can't wait to find out.

Plenty of tab target abilities in wildstar.

if they want to be a serious contender in the US they need to make sure the knock down CC stuff gets fixed.

To be honest I don't think the tab targeting will be much of an issue. I can still go and play UO and enjoy the game even if the combat is dated. Most theme park games need 'better' combat because after the combat there isn't much of a reward. The combat in itself is the reward. Where as in games like UO and obviously Archage the result of the combat is the reward. It has more weight to it then themepark MMO's.

I personally feel that Wildstar is a more known quantity...I feel it could be very good, or pretty bad...but the gap between being good and bad isn't that wide. ArcheAge to me will either be completely amazing, or a total failure. I'm not sure there will be a middle ground for it.

The aspect that will most likely be the deciding factor in this game is the community, and that is a bit scary. I read that on one of the Korean servers, Pirates ask for 1/3 of the loot, and then they will escort you to your destination which is pretty cool. Or that some area that you need to farm for some type of token currency has both faction agreeing to a truce for that specific area. Things that develop like this on a server can be very cool, but I am sure there are horror stories of the opposite happening.

I'm curious at how much localization Trion will be doing, they haven't said much, are they just translating the game, or adapting some gameplay mechanics to fit our market better.

Worse case, I think I will play it just to glide around in the gorgeous world until that bores me.

I really like the notion of physically moving "commerce" through the world for rewards. In the "real" world, the need to physically move goods from one location to another is pretty much the center of all human conflict, with the exception of conflict created by ideological differences or the want to extract resources. But those kinds of conflicts are usually on the larger scale--transportation is where all the small battles happen, pirates, special forces, power projection, local intelligence (Fancy way of saying we pay the natives)--all of this is done so people don't steal shit we trade. In the real world, moving goods is essentially what creates a lot of drama in the world.

So I really hope they don't change that aspect of it. Moving goods should be a big pay off, but also make you a big target. This way protection rackets, guild collaboration for "convoys", pirates, thieves, all this will spring up if there is a big enough reward for movement AND if money is in demand. Not to mention, if there are security bonuses to territory control (Like say, if your guild owns the territory, on non-siege days you get +10% HP/Damage while fighting, to represent "back up")--then trade routes and moving goods could actually spur fights for territory too...(I know this probably isn't in, but I can dream)

For example, if there are rotatable, valuable resources--lets say they rotate every 6 months. Lets say it's "gold", which provides tons of money. One cycle it pops up in a certain location to the west of the commerce dump--and through three separate "kingdoms"...A guild that controls, or has alliances with those staked out claims could get a lot more profit through by having a safe trade route through those kingdoms. This could spark wars for control of the lands, or diplomacy for alliances (Like with the pirates, IE we will share 1/3 for safe conduct.)....Could be really amazing if set up right.

Of course, this is all based on money staying relevant. Which given the nature of their decay system (Meh, it looked better before they changed it.) and given the fact that they abstracted down the "casus belli" cost of going to war through that bidding process (Which is a great idea)--It looks like they have massive gold sinks. And given the nature of moving rewards through PvP=profit, hopefully bots won't be able to cause too much trouble.

Trion isn't doing so hot these days, maybe we'll see this game soon, maybe we won't. If you really want to play this just play the Korean server and join an english speaking guild.

Has anyone heard any status on the NA version of this ? Seems Trion has been pretty quiet for 6 months on it.

No Idea but it's a shame if beta doesnt come soon. The best opinion, of all the opinions Ive read, is belowCannot wait for NA release - Page 2 - ArcheAge Discussion - ArcheAge Source

"Trion is currently undergoing a 2-month observation period as a result of some restructuring that occurred at the end of August, which means the observation period will end at the end of October. If the higher-ups like the new direction of the company and no more restructuring is needed, I predict that Trion will have a completely playable version of ArcheAge, with the majority translated into English, by the end of December. I can't predict when the French or German translations will be done, and I can't predict when Trion will open a closed beta, but I think it's more than reasonable to say that they'll have something completely playable in English by the end of December (whether they decide to open it or not).

Many of us believe that Trion is mainly watching the reaction to the Chinese and Russian versions of the game right now before taking further action on their part."
