Wouldn't be shocked if most companies requiring online connections for SP games are pulling this shit

79 million that's just the cost of doing business. They should face criminal charges. If I broke in and stole your ID I would go to jail.

IMO Grummz is a trash source who regularly exaggerates and lies for views.

There was no fine. There wasn't even any government response.

A privacy firm filed a complaint based on a customer pissed about always-on connectivity. Ubisoft was collecting the same always-on crap for SP games (time played, etc.) that every other company does, and this firm decided to challenge that under Europe's GDPR, making the argument that Ubisoft didn't have a valid reason for data collection because the game in question (Far Cry: Primal) was single player only.

At it's core, the complaint is challenging just the basic EULA for the game, trying to argue that even though a user agrees to the data collection outlined in the EULA implicitly by using the product:
1. The data collected should count as personal data under the law and therefore needs to have an opt-out.
2. Ubisoft doesn't have an operational/security purpose for the collected data (part of the EULA statement).

It's a practice we all hate, but there isn't some extra layer of secret 'spying' that Ubisoft specifically is performing on top and was caught doing. The question to the EU is whether always-online and the data collection part of the EULA for single player games with no opt-out breaks the GDPR.

I certainly wouldn't mind if Ubisoft got fined and everyone had to let SP players opt out of connectivity, but a firm filing a complaint is a few steps away from a legal ruling.

It is like Netflix is using ChatGPT to pick projects and just asking it to “pick a show with lots of lore we’ll ignore, a huge fan base we can piss off, and a catchy title!”

I’ve got an idea for an Assassin’s Creed TV show.
In an alternate historical timeline where power and betrayal rule the land, the stage is set for an epic clash of ideologies. In the heart of Renaissance Italy, a young noble’s life is shattered when a ruthless conspiracy claims his family. Unbeknownst to him, his bloodline is tied to an ancient secret society sworn to protect freedom at all costs. As he uncovers his Assassin heritage, he embarks on a relentless quest for vengeance, pitting himself against the shadowy Templar Order, whose grip on power is orchestrated by the infamous House of Borgia.

Through years of cunning, combat, and sacrifice, he battles the likes of Rodrigo and Cesare Borgia, unraveling a centuries-old conflict that defines the fate of the world. This is the story of a man who rises from personal tragedy to become a legend—a man named Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Cast an Italian in the lead, fill the cast with young, attractive actors, and hire a decent writer that won’t insert their own shitty political activism. Why is Hollywood so bad at this.

Eh I'd watch a blaxsploitation show set in Japan. They don't have the balls to do it right though.

I don't think that the Jewish Order is gonna be cast as the good guys by the same people writing all that other stuff...

In any case, reading this reminded me of how good Assassin's Creed 2 actually was. Highly recommend playing the Ezio Trilogy to anyone who hasn't.

Moreso than that, though...I highly recommend playing AC4 and AC: Rogue, even if you have already in the past. They've aged even better than the Ezio Trilogy, and from an art direction standpoint they actually look better than a lot of the modern Assassin's Creed games. I've been playing both for like six months, at a rate of like, a mission every couple weeks. About halfway through Black Flag and maybe 10% through Rogue. They have been very much worth the revisit. Both take place in the same timeframe and relate to each other. Great characters, great dialogue, great missions (that whole level where Kenway had to liberate all of his future crew from slave ships during a thunderstorm was absolutely insane). The high production values are visible everywhere and the action has actual weight to it.

don't play ac4 (black flag) right now, the remaster is rumored to be released before end of the year. wouldn't be shocked if they re-re-remastered ezio trilogy again for ps5/switch 2 either.

i agree ac rogue looks great but i didn't like the game, the story was pretty boring and you spent a lot of time just fucking around in canada. its even more boring in game than in real life. lotta french fags in that game too just jibber jabbering away

The movie "The Man With The Iron Fists" is probably close to what you're describing. Not really blaxploitation, more like "a couple guys from Wu Tang Clan made a movie about Japan". It's actually good, even though the lead (The RZA) has one facial expression for the entire movie.
