1.5 probably, I can see it happening. TBH even I am super curious about it and I have little interest in supero hero shit these days, if it has some hype moments like Infinity War did people will go.

Episode 9 lost money at 1b and was nowhere near this scale I.E. RDJ paycheck plus the marketing to make people care about MCU again.

It needs 2b.

Infinity War/Endgame had a massive buildup that everybody wanted to see "pay off".

This has virtually 0 buildup because nobody has seen the recent piles of Marvel trash once they realized they're only producing trash. I don't see how this does very well compared to its budget and/or predecessor "pay off" movie(s).

Right. I was legit excited to see Infinity/end game. Great good looking actors and writers who were at the top of their game.

10 years later we have nothing but shit and forced diversity. No interest at all in their garbage.

At least two or three people have said how this has "no buildup".

With all due respect, thats just not the timeline we're in.

In reality, its had the entire MCU Avenger franchise as buildup. Plus a few shitty movies (and one moderately OK movie) since then.

I'm not defending M She U or any of the other retarded decisions. And I have no predictions about whether this movie will suck. But this "no buildup" argument that keeps getting repeated, for the like fucking 19th movie in a series of movies, is just not accurate.

Dude, I think you're seeing the forest through the trees. It's that all of the recent movies have been pretty garbage apart from the Spider-Man stuff maybe, whereas the stuff culminating into the end game conclusion had quite a bit of good movies and some stinkers here and there. I think it's safe to say there were more decent movies versus stinkers.

Had there been a sprinkle of decent movies throughout, probably wouldn't have been as big as the deal, but pepper that with stupid TV shows, and you have a recipe for disaster, or maybe you just something that tastes totally bland. The ratio of decent build-up movies to bad ones is pretty tilted towards the suck.

It's like a shitty pot roast. Also I hate the fact that they call pot roast a roast because it's fucking braised.

I acknowledged the quality problems with recent MCU installments.

It doesnt change the point at all. The entire MCU franchise counts as buildup for this movie. Its directly playing off plot points from Endgame, ffs.

Again, it may be shit (I plan to watch it - it doesnt sound bad at all to me yet). I'm only arguing the "no buildup" criticism.

We'll have to see how much of the post-Endgame stuff gets incorporated. One of the main problems I see at this point is there have been a bunch of what can best be described as "false starts." The whole Kang situation. Whatever the Eternals was trying to show us. The ending of Multiverse of Madness. Whatever was in the other shows that either were so lackluster I don't remember or didn't even watch in the first place.

None of those "plot lines" have any cohesion or sense of building towards something. Phases 1-3 succeeded because they could make different styles of movies with totally different characters but there was always some infinity stone macguffin moving things along. I suppose this current phase is driven by multiverse shenanigans but that's more an environment or backdrop than a villain. I'm all for Doom being a worthy main bad guy but if that's truly the case then almost all the post endgame shows will be completely irrelevant.

And maybe that's a good thing and we'll just collectively forget about the last 6 years.

The entire MCU doesn't count as build up for Doomsday, just like the entire Bond series doesn't count as build up for the next bond film. Or the last NFL season doesn't count as build up for this upcoming NFL season. And in IW/Endgame they had a perfect mechanism for tying the movies together (the stones/gauntlet)

The reason the MCU until Endgame was buildup for IW/Endgame is because they started dropping plot points, characters, and hinting at things along the way. They didn't do that in this phase, they couldn't. As they literally started off moving towards the Kang Dynasty story line and abandoned that. (Loki and Antman Quantumania are both prime examples of that). They have tried to pivot to make RJD's Doomsday a part for part replacement for Kang, but he's shown up as a post credit drop in a grand total of one movie.

Doomsday is the Brony to Thanos's LeBron.

If the spoilers are to be believed, the events in this movie are the direct consequence of the actions taken in endgame.

But somehow endgame doesnt count as buildup for this movie.

Its like if the shitty star wars prequels came out and people tried to argue that the originals didnt count as buildup for those shitty movies, just cause that one guy they don't like said it. Booooring

About 75% of nerds could have been told that they need to get from End Game to an Avengers vs Dr Doom movie but Dr Doom looks like RDJ and we would have all had a better run of build up movies than the shit we’ve had since Endgame.

"Endgame has direct influences on the script of this movie" is not buildup. It's just some continuity, and we don't know how much. You could say this is a sequel to Endgame, but not that there's been a bunch of buildup to whatever this abortion's plot is about. The buildup would be between Endgame and this. There isn't any.

My big take away from this is it's funny how much heavy lifting that Marvel has relied on from post credit scenes for continuity. You know, the parts that aren't even actually in the movie itself.

If they didn't have these scenes that most people could have missed entirely, would anyone be lauding the MCU story building as much as they did? If anything, it seems like it speaks to lazy writing.
