A24 tells me this is going to be far weirder then the trailers will show. If nothing else its nice to see A24 give another unknown a shot even if they are a YouTuber, its how the dudes that made Talk To Me and Bring Her Back got their start. Tells me they have an eye for it.

I'm finding I like the "I can't tell what's real or not" movies less as I get older. Reality is fucked up enough.

As I've aged, one of my favorite story telling devices has become the unreliable narrator. It just hits right, especially in these types of movies.

It really got into my head about halfway through when he's describing memories... And I kept thinking about how they describe memories not as your brain accessing a hard drive but more like your brain re-rendering the entire experience. Data is lost. Experiences are altered and never the same.

I don't want to click your spoiler thing but can you give a review that doesn't have spoilers. I'm honestly really interested in this movie because it just looks so out there and I don't know anything about the game or whatever the hell is based on. I just like the sort of stuff, and I've been hoping it was a good film.

The general setting based on the YouTube short which is based on a creepy pasta meme drawing on the uneasy feeling of liminal spaces.

Down and out man finds a doorway into this realm of seemingly infinite, nonsensical rooms, from the basement of his shitty furniture store.

I'd say no. Maybe some loose conceptual connections, but Backrooms is more about making the familiar confusing and uncomfortable, which then naturally leads into the horror of it all.

I still can't get my head around a 16-19 year old writing and directing this. He has a great interview on The Big Picture (Netflix / Spotify), they've got a few clips on YT (hate that I have to go to Netflix to watch this now)
