I had rewatched blade of the immortal not too long ago. Had a bunch of the comics back when I was in high school, I never saw the anime, but it's such a great movie.

Tried to find a blade of the immortal gif through the forum and this came up, and it'll work, but I'm definitely looking forward to this one

So it'll be 17 years between the Ferrara / Harvey Keitel original (NY) and the Herzog / Cage New Orleans, and 17 years between that and this Miike / Oguri Tokyo entry?

Bad Lieutenant is not the first 'franchise' that comes to mind for once-a-generation entries.

I was ready to bet my house that the link with Bad Lieutenant was only because of the way they translated the title. I would have been homeless because the guy who produced the Abel Ferrara film also produced the Herzog film and a few years back he decided to use the Bad Lieutenant IP to produce several films set around the world with corrupt police as the theme. I am not sure other films will ever materialize, but Miike's film is the japanese entry for that serie.
