Yea I hear the praises. I might just get it at full price, I do understand they deserve it. Just used to old stuff being a bit cheaper.

Vacation first! But yea, job hunting starts next week. Socialism makes it easier as I will be fine for a year. But the goal is to find one pretty fast, double salary if I find one during the first 6 months!

Then I might be able to afford BG3 at full price.

Here's an example of the extremes you need to do to hit level 11 and a bit at the end of Act 2:

And the start of him squeezing out every last drop to get to lvl 12:

Is that the dude who mathed out that you'd need to kill someone who summoned zombies (at 1xp per kill) something like 2-3k times? Hard pass. You do hit max early in A3, maybe 1 or two quest lines in, but definitely not two.

I gotta be honest act 3 is really dragging down my enjoyment. I'd just run to the finish line now but my wife wants to do everything. Every goddamn house in the city has its own quest line. When people gave this a 10/10 and GOTY did they spend 60 fucking hours in Lower City at max level the entire time? Because it's very reminiscent of how shitty the beginning of DOS1 was.

Anyways it just drops the game from 10/10 to 9/10 for me.

We finally killed Gortash quite easily but I think we missed something. We didn't talk to him at all in act 3 and just did nearly everything in the city including killing all the watchers through the factory. We then circled back to Gortash's area where it said to see his ordination and get his nether stone. The entire place was KOS on us though including him. I feel like there was a whole bunch of dialogue we missed out on due to how we avoided him?

Also did the house of grief fight and that was probably the hardest fight we've done so far. Thankfully between my bard being able to shot 9 times a turn and my wife's owlbear flattening the clumped up enemies it wasn't too bad. I saw lots of complaints online about the fight being overtuned though. We died the first attempt just because they aoe'd our party down before we even got a turn.

Gortash and the keep goes KOS on you if you a) Assault the steel watcher foundry b) travel to the underwater prison - those are dealbreakers for him. If you don't do that, then he is still willing to cut a deal and the keep/Gortash won't be KOS yet.

Gortash just cuts a deal for you to kill Orin. They both turn on each other. I don't think you miss anything really. Maybe some dialog if you have Karlach or Wyll in your party since Gortash is entwined in their companion quests.

In one save I cut a deal with Gortash after I killed Orin - you have to be firm with the “you keep your stone, I keep mine” offer otherwise he thinks you’re weak. As long as you don’t try to go to the underwater prison or fuck with the foundry, he is onboard with the deal. However if you proceed to the nether brain, it basically murders Gortash because he doesn’t have astral prism protection and the end plays out like it normally would (go inside the prism and make your choice on whether to go with emperors to plan or free Orpheus if you have the hammer)

Let's see, all you need is the Orphic Hammer, kill Orin and you could immediately go to the final battle. All those random quests can be skipped.

You can, but you get a better ending if you do side quests

I dunno when they added it, but I found a happy Karlach ending during a recent play through I did with the unrestricted party size mod

1) Had Orpheus become the mindflayer
2) had Wyll bring Karlach to hell and I stayed
3) at the withers party, she tells you that Wyll and herself found the location of a secret forge that will be able to fix karlach’s core or make a new core that can survive outside hell

I consider Act 3 to be two separate acts. Act 3A, let's call, it, is Rivington and Wyrm's Crossing, and 3B is the Lower City.

Although, I do feel a drag whenever I'm in the Lower City. Just so much shit to do.

Finally made it to the final battle. I think on replays I would skip 95% of what happens in lower city and just do the foundry, gortash, and Orin.

It was 1am so we had to stop but we're saved at the bottom of the stem.

Also they've been throwing so much XP at us it really feels like a shame they capped the level 50 fuckin hours ago

The things that some people dislike but others love is interesting.

I've only played BG3 to completion, once, but I explored EVERY nook and cranny I could find because I rarely (if ever) re-play RPGs due to how much time I spend with them the first run. When developers say that their game takes x amount of hours to complete I know it's going to take me 2 or 3 times that because I try to experience everything the game has to offer because I know I'm not coming back. Entirely new 3rd party mod campaigns being the exception. New features, by themselves, aren't enough to interest me.

However, I will say that hitting the xp cap so early sucked. I don't remember exactly when it was, but I do remember thinking -- "Fuck, I have a really, really long way to go before I finish this." Still, I wouldn't have wanted the level cap to be any higher level than it was because the game isn't difficult for people that have experience with the 5e rules. Which I have in spades.

In the future, I'd love to see a BG3-style game with a much higher level limit, but high level spells introduce so many problems that I don't think it can be done without serious modification to spells or heavily curating the spell lists.

*edit*

I just went and looked at my playtime for BG3 and it says 616 hours. I know for a fact I didn't play it that much and I often go afk with my games running so I can easily cut that in half. Also, I spent 60 or 70 hours in early access so it looks like my playthrough of BG3 was around ~250 hours.

There are mods that raise the level cap and add new abilities if you wanted to go that route

The Emperor sex option scene is interesting because if you pick certain dialogue options, he all but admits he is manipulating and using you to his own ends

There's also the way he treats
Ansur, given the implication that there was (at least) a one-sided romance going on between them at one point.

At some level, I do think that he knows what he's doing is wrong and has a minimal level of regret for it. But when push comes to shove, he will always look out for #1 first, and will always rationalize his way out of any serious contrition with "I'm doing what I have to do."

True, it really does come down to being a mindflayer. They don’t have the same emotional capacity that the other races do. Not to say they don’t have any emotions, but they definitely lack in the empathy/love realm.

It’s an interesting conundrum: what happens when you have memories of love and friendship, then one day find yourself physically incapable of feeling that. You intellectually understand that and also remember what was considered normal and what a partner expects, but you don’t feel it. Then pair that with a strong survival instinct and ambition that puts you at odds with all that.

I guess it would be hard to say the Emperor is evil, but he isn’t good either. Probably pretty close to true neutral I would guess, slanting towards the side of lawful

I enjoyed act 3 to an extend but I would've enjoyed it WAY more if I was levelling. Even if it was some sort of AA system where doing the extra content was benefiting me. I did get some gear from it, but going from an epic act 2 finale to basically an errand boy in town was a downshift.

I thought the murder mystery was well done. Finding all the clown pieces was kinda dumb but the storyline was pretty good. The hag and the dinosaur safari were cool. And the bhaal spawn was great if you were dark urge. Most of the companion quest finales were pretty good I thought. I thoroughly enjoyed 100 percenting the game.
