As if Glitch has ever survived any campaign long enough to shoot at an Atlas.
Isn't she your LRM boat? Should be safe, my behemoth likes getting smacked around. I finally took 2 injuries so I bought a 5th pilot the very rare white male in the sea of wierdo's to make my total roster 6? (I always forget about the spare they give you I never leveled)

EDIT: Missed the reply where you said you do that.

I have never played a game in this genre. Would this be a fun first start?
I'd read peoples responses in the lats 10 pages. Some of us are enjoying it more than others that might be what you might call.... Mad about lots of things.

Unless your computer runs buggy, I think it even if unfamiliar with battletech (adds a little learning curve on what things are vs a person familiar kinda knowing what to expect), it might suit someone obsessed with min maxing, playing thoughtful/tactical, etc. I think that's why it's popular, mix of random loot essentially, "gear" loadouts to tweak, and turn based so it's pretty approachable for someone that might suck at a RTS or twitchy FPS. (Very easy to watch something at the same time/multitask since there's no real time response needed to anything happening.)

I think if you are impatient could be an issue but in the last couple pages there are tweaks to massage it kinda slowing the pace down some. I think it's more engaging/fun than say something like xcom that requires a more niche fanbase as long as you like the idea of messing with positioning and playing with numbers ensuring you get the best shots etc. I suppose other than the inherent basic tactics, so far outside of a few story missions, they are fairly basic in what you are doing though. IE basically just kill the things. Even on escort etc, amounts to kill the things faster/knock them down before they hit the APC kinda deal.

I am asking as a turn based not battletech. I have played plenty of mech games. Never xcom or any other turn based.

Oh, in that case I suppose it's fine. Just bear in mind the RNG can get pretty brutal when a pilot dies to a random headshot or you get careless and let the only gauss rifle in the game get blown up.

Very minor spoiler, but somewhat helpful if you're aware of it now.

You field two full lances for the last mission, so you need 8 pilots (and suitably geared mechs for them. Now obviously the fastest xp comes from running max skull missions at the end of the game anyway, but the more competent they are when you get to the end, the less of a pita it is to powerlevel them.

I just figured my main team will be so awesome, I just take the second lance as 4 sensor locking locusts ;p

Is there actually only 1 gauss rifle in the game?

You'd think that wouldn't you, but the game kinda lies to you about that...

Gauss rifles are Lostech, so yes. If HBS adds more obtainable Lostech beyond what comes with the SLDF mech you get and the lootable stuff from the final story mission (according to Chysamere), it may be possible to get more. As it stands now there is only the one and if you lose it, tough shit. It fills a very unique niche in the game too. The gauss rifle and the AC20 (and maybe a PPC that rolled +20 damage, if thats even possible) are the only weapons that can pop a fully armored cockpit in a single hit, and needless to say the gauss rifle can shoot one helluva lot farther than the AC20.

Honestly that's what makes Lostech and the pre/early invasion eras so much more interesting. Apparently the writers felt similarly because after the setting got boring with everyone catching up to clan tech levels, some religious nuts managed to launch a fairly successful holy war against technology all across the Inner Sphere, and then the FTL communication network was mostly destroyed. Current setting is called the Dark Age and Lostech is very much a thing again.

It has a fairly steep learning curve, but once it plateaus, it does so without much hiccup.

My Glitch is my Sharpshooter. I've got her in a Griffon right now with an LRM 10 and 2 LRM 5's and a medium laser. She can hop all over the battlefield gaining evasive and never being touched unless she's targeted by everything. And I just gotta Quickdraw 6R, I think? Man those things suck.

I tried everything I could to get that thing halfway decent. Nope.

The 60 ton heavies (Quickdraw, Dragon) just arent worth it over the 55 ton mediums. Youre better off with a Shadow Hawk or Griffin or even a catapult if youre building a LRM boat.

There was also an interview in PC Gamer with the lead devs from the game, link here for those interested Battletech Interview
