weren’t you the guy shilling for xrp last year?

No bud, the exact opposite. It's vGrade who's been on the XRP hype train forever.

XRP is about as big a scam as there is.

Wait until MA and V buy the new middlemen and then it's meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Already happening. Both V and MC are building stablecoin rails to enable their networks to use stablecoins for payments, settlements, and cross-border transactions, especially on-chain.

The promise that Bitcoin represents has a genuine chance to fix a broken BASE LAYER of the modern world. It's not a guarantee but we're living through history right now, try not to quit before the fights even really started.

Can someone give me a good 1-2 paragraph explanation on why buy BTC? I’m getting a load of normie friends asking me. Common theme is “it’s literally not tied to anything”, “it doesn’t have a use” etc.

Here's a one sentence reason to not buy BTC:

"When normies are asking about buying BTC, it's going to crash soon."

Been true for like 10+ crashes now.

Historically fairly accurate. If we follow past patterns we're probably within 6 months of the bear starting. That being said, this time does feel different and retail honestly is only just waking up to what is going on. Also if your holding period is 4+ years there really isn't a bad time to buy if past performance is going to continue to track the future. No guarantees, with nations and corporates getting involved we could conceivably see the 4 year cycle of the past change.

I would still expect a big drawdown at some point though.

I'm pretty much just all in with Bitcoin. At first I was dipping my toes in a little bit of everything people said "This is the next Bitcoin!", but eventually saw the light. Haven't bought anything but BTC in years. I've posted in here about it, basically I hesitated for years, finally went all in when it was $45k. I then watched it drop to $17k over the next few months and felt like I had royally fucked up. Everyone in my personally life told me to sell, but I was of the opinion "I'm either going to win big, or I'm going to lose it all" and held. If I pulled out now I would triple my money, but why not just wait another 20 years and see where that gets me?

Also, my wife who was super hesitant when we went in big is now giving me shit because she was pressing me to buy more a few months ago when it was at 80K and I told her "It will go lower, I'll starting buying in again at 70k". Wah wah.

The only thing I've moved over was Shib, I keep thinking I should just convert the others to Bitcoin. They are comparatively such small amounts though that I keep just doing the "Meh, maybe one of them will randomly blow up, might as well just leave them be."

My wifes father called me two nights ago and said "Hey, have you heard of this XRP thing? It's supposed to be the next Bitcoin and they are saying its going to go up to like $1,000 by Christmas. What do you know about that?"

I just answered honestly and went "I don't really pay attention to Crypto at all, I've kind of settled on the theory that Bitcoin is the only real winner and the only one I would put money in."

Not to derail too hard, but in what sort of competition or contest of any sort does one come out ahead with this sort of attitude? It's a loser mindset and it leads to being a loser. You can be realistic about how the world is without presuming defeat before change has really even happened.

Yes powerful people want things to continue to suck for you, but you have to be blind to not see that the world is changing at an alarming clip. That change does not have to be for the worse, but if everyone takes on this wimpy attitude it will definitely end bad.

Grown up? Bunch of weak men is what it sounds like to me. Lord willing the future depends on your betters and not you.

The promise that Bitcoin represents has a genuine chance to fix a broken BASE LAYER of the modern world. It's not a guarantee but we're living through history right now, try not to quit before the fights even really started.

If you don't see what I'm talking about here, I question if you're paying attention.
They have a name for people like you, too. Mary Sue.

Just because you think things are looking up doesn't mean they are. It just means you're unwilling to acknowledge reality. That's not healthy either.

Or, I can see the same reality as you and come to a different conclusion. Perhaps I even have more, or certainly at least, different context than yourself or others. Its not that I don't see the hardships that everyone else sees, nor am I ignorant to how insurmountable the "opposition" seems. I simply don't see value in admitting defeat, calling the "enemy" unbeatable. I'm collapsing the complexity of the topic down into winners and losers, because this is a forum post, but you don't win at anything in life believing that you're definitely going to lose.

The prevailing narrative on this forum is doomer, and I say those who agree are demonstrating weakness in the face of adversity. I'd even go so far as to say that being a doomer is capitulating to communist propaganda. State too strong, resistance is futile, 1984 is the only possible outcome.

For an (oversimplified) antidote I would refer you to Matthew 16:18. Specifically note that I believe that our posture on this Earth is one of offense against the evils of the world rather than a defensive one. As such I view the doomer viewpoint as an antithesis to what we're called to do and reject it to the degree that I'm capable. This isn't the place to have that conversation but hopefully that makes some sense if you're a Christian reading this, and if not I hope it makes you curious enough to go look.

I'll continue to orient myself toward an optimistic view of the future and doing the things within my sphere of influence to produce that reality. Yourself and anyone else of a similar mindset is free to doom-scroll politics and whinge online about how awful everything is definitely, 100% for sure, going to be. Maybe we can compare notes in a decade and see which mindset produces more fruit in our respective lives.

Rephrased for an investing context, I'll invest my money (Time + energy) into what I believe will create a better future. I encourage you to do that same regardless of what you think that is.

On the topic of why things will get better see below.

Not only is the age we're entering into completely incompatible with the current system, thus it must change, but Bitcoin is essentially the -only- path forward for fundamental reasons. An inflationary monetary system cannot exist with the level of technological deflation we're facing with AI etc. I don't agree with Booth about everything but his core thesis is solid and worth understanding, especially if you're struggling with why Bitcoin is doing what it is doing.

Priced in USD life is getting more expensive and everything sucks
Priced in Bitcoin life is always getting cheaper and the future is full of hope

Your worldview is dependent on a number of things, but one of them is the denominator you use when pricing the future. I'm not proposing this as a theoretical, but as someone who has lived it. How many outside of Bitcoin can say that their lives have dramatically improved over the last 5 years, with all the insanity we've been through?
