I was like "WTF! Yuen Woo-Ping???" and yeah, the guy is 80. Nicolas Tse, Tony Leung Ka-Fai (I would have preferred Chiu-Wai but still) and Jet Li! That's some old school cast also.

US got a limited run Feb 17, UK hits cinemas April 17. No VOD info so far, but expect it soon, likely April, though early May isn’t impossible.

A bit later than expected, but it now has an official VOD release on June 30th. For some reason, they updated the title for the US digital release to Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert.

Dialogue and story easy to follow even if not familiar with the manga.

AAA budget color by numbers silkroad western. If you like the silkroad western genre or are familiar with the manga this is a very good adaptation.

Jet Li is more of a cameo role (although he's in a full action sequence). If that's your reason for checking it out just a heads up.

Nothing could have been better about this adaptation-- I figure a sequel is coming, as this should have been very successful.
