Yes, I get what the joke is. It isn't profound, never was. He's basically Jay on the Street or Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, taken to the extreme. I remember a time when everyone wasn't up their own ass and could laugh at powerful people, but I guess now it's more important to virtue signal about comedy and do unpaid PR work for rich politicians and media figures online.

Borat does both. As does Ali G, they're just tools for him to do the unexpected interview/confrontation thing. Local plebs, as you call them, who would sing along with weird songs about killing jews, probably deserve to be laughed at. As do people who white knight "victims" of jokes.
