80s were SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER

Nirvana - trash and overrated.
RHCP - This was their only good album
Pearl Jam - Trash rehashed trash
Soundgarden - Trash (His solo shit was much better)

Metallica - Black album is trash and I'm beyond tired of hearing fucking Enter Sandman

With exception of Pantera everything you listed is trash.

I don't know how the fuck anyone listened to Smashing Pumpkins. He's annoying fucking nails on a chalkboard voice. Gross.
Could not disagree more. Also, surprised you haven't mentioned Dave Matthews Band, one can only imagine how you feel about them.

EDIT: Just realized you are a Death Metal Faggot. Death Metal is for loser pussies that try to pretend to be tough by listening to the unlistenable. Never met a actually tough death metal guy.

Says the keyboard tough guy.

Your reddit tier "insult" is laughable at best. Hilarious that someone who listens to pussies that can't fathom extreme metal is calling someone else a "pussy". Listen, chi mo, I know you're not capable of handling an opinion that's not coming out of your face but you should at least try.

To be fair I personally categorize death metal the same way I do country, are there some songs I can tolerate and even sort of like? Yes, but to just listening to it song after song would make me want to punch a baby.

I'll take death or black pretty much any day. Someone mentioned In Flames earlier, they were the break through band for me. Similar w/ "country", I came across Sturgill Simpson right around the time 'Metamodern Sounds in Country Music' came out. It's now one of my favorite albums, and I'm more open to stuff in that non-radio country group of stuff that's pretty popular the last 10 years or whatever.

That's fair. There's some death metal I can't fucking stand. I bounce between metalcore and death. Orbit Culture is one of my favorites but Napalm Death can fuck all the way off.

Napalm Death isn't death metal.

I think that's a major problem with a lot of people. "Death metal" as a genre has an absolutely HUGE swathe of shit that gets tossed into it and it's not all the same. These things make a difference.

I think most people can get on board with a lot of melo-death, but when it gets into the brutal death stuff where your logo looks like it was carved into a picnic table is when you lose people. If it's nothing but blast beats and tremolo picking and pig grunts it's a universe and half away from Amon Amarth or Before the Dawn or something

Some people just like to listen to fuckin blast beats and pig growls. Most of the people that claim to like it are just doing it to be edgy, because there's no musical value there. It's just shock factor. It's something you're supposed to grow out of.

All the picnic table carving bands where initially more black metal type stuff, no?

Blast beats can be great, I don't want them the whole song though. Same goes for a lot of the more extreme vocals.

There's a lot of great death metal bands out there.

One of my current favorites is Orbit Culture. They're melodic death metal.

Ahh, a mic gargling fan. Explains a lot! Helps to branch out a little. NIN had some very solid albums, Filter put out a good one, Silverchair had a couple of good tracks, the Toadies had Possum Kingdom, Devin Townsend was doing SYL stuff, Bush had two really solid back to back albums, Corrosion of Conformity had a rock solid album, Marcy Playground had -a- song, DMX and Busta Rhymes were holding it down with some very good albums.

I mean if you only like bands where the lead singer deepthroats the microphone I can see why you might think the 90s sucked. It had a lot of great music for a lot of genres.

Where did I say it's the only thing I listen to?
You clearly don't pay attention to these forums enough.

I'm literally just going off your list for "the only good shit that came out of the 90s"

And then I listed a bunch of good shit that came out of the 90s that weren't the mic gargling variety. From multiple genres.

I hope that's clear enough. I can help elucidate further if you need.

It has its place but it'd be like me saying "no good music came out of the 80s" and just listed polka hall music that isn't Weird Al. It might be my jam, but it's a subjective view that very few will agree with.

To be clear, I'm only sort of a polka fan. I would never.

I listened to those Orbit Culture songs posted above. I think I've really narrowed down why they sound so shit, and it's 100% the vocalist. At first I wanted to blame the entire band and say that it was just guitar distortion and blast beats, but it's really the vocals. There's absolutely no range in them whatsoever. It just sounds flat, and then he starts growling I'm assuming to cover up that he's got no actual singing talent.

It's really the same reason I can't listen to even something like Lorna Shore. I know Will can sing, but it's just fucking growling and it's very limited in the range of notes you get. So it sounds fucking retarded. I bet they'd be significantly more successful if he actually sang.

And yeah, maybe everyone's not just looking for success, but no one will remember any of these bands a decade from now. It's not cohesive enough, even though the musicians themselves have tons of talent.
