Anyway, if you want to learn as an adult, there's hundreds of grandmasters making YouTube content, it's not a daunting task anymore. I dunno what those links are. Probably gay.

I actually teach basic chess to 11-13 year olds and that post was total nonsense.

Beginners know the moves but have no strategy, so they tend to make weird opening moves, lose peices for free and struggle to checkmate.

First strategy to learn is castling ASAP, then pawn structure and protecting pieces, then special moves (fork, pin, skewer, attack the guard, discovered check etc), then easy checkmates (two rooks, queen promotion if don't have two).

After that you can look at openings - I show them the Italian to castle quickly and have them stick with that while learning - London System is a good one to learn next.

I've always been fond of the Danish Gambit myself. I've never been able to win a match with it tho. Maybe one day.
