Be interesting to see the mods come out for this. Hopefully a lot of cosmetic stuff, so you don't have to see the same buildings forever.

Odd it's such a late opening tomorrow. Curious why steam(as it says it is out of their hands and relies on steam) does that.

Even if it ends up being as broken and dodgy as Sim City, the fact it's under half the price makes it far more palatable.

I purchased. Hopefully we don't get burned by a city sim game again.

Are you going to go hard on this one Intropy?
Everything I've seen looks extremely promising so far, that said, after the hurt from last time I think I'm going to sit on the sidelines the first week and see how it pans out.

I picked this up because I like city games, ya'll seem hopeful about this and $21 is dirt cheap.

True enough, I've seen enough on stream to believe I'll get my moneys worth outta this game.

What I've seen that I like is:

1. No always online DRM.(FUEA)
2. City size(9x SimShitty)
3. Roads
and hopefully
4. Stability in larger cities(FUCITIESXL). The largest cities I've seen are ~300k so far, but I'm going to hope Paradox tested large cities and didn't fuck it up. I think this is the one people are waiting to see.

I played for a bit during lunch, and so far it seems pretty solid. It looks a lot the newer Simcity but feels a lot more like the older games. I really like the road system as compared to Simcity. It makes it easy to optimize your grids, or go for more imaginative designs if that's more your thing, or both. As someone who has always been OCD about maximizing every square inch of space, it's great. So far it also runs super smoothly and looks really good. I've encountered no bugs at all so far, with the small exception of the audio making popping sounds on occassion.

Other than that, it's got a lot of potential. If the developer keeps to to their promise of regularly keeping new content coming (day/night cycles, please), it could turn out to be pretty awesome for sure.

Paradox still releases occasional DLC for CKII which is 4 years old at this point so I don't see why they wouldn't do this if cities remains popular, also there is mod support for community addons.

This is their biggest selling game ever by a mile. Expect a ton of post release support for this title.

Like previously said, the mod support should help a ton. Since no company can keep pace with player demand, allowing those players to fill gaps is a smart decision.

It's funny how fast things can turn to total shit. This game definitely punishes you for being reactive rather than proactive. Make sure you get your essential services placed as quickly as possible, or you could come back from getting a drink to find that half of your town has the plague and the rest are packing up and leaving in the midst of a crime-wave. There seems to be little warning given for impending doom. I started a new city and did things differently and so far so good.

I also love the large city sizes. After playing Sim"city" where your sprawling metropolis takes up less space than many small towns, it's great to have a ton of room to spread out and get creative. The graphics engine seems to scale very well with larger city sizes, too. I have yet to see any performance hit as my city grows.

Is this a game where you need to smash every tile together with ruthless efficiency? Or are the maps so big that you will get where you want to go even if you sprawl?

Do you guys pre-lay your avenues and minor roads, or ?

One thing I was thinking was having little units linked up by highways, with some green space in between the highways and the units. But didn't know if I'd run into too much sprawl if I do that.

My understanding, haven't played it yet, is that its pretty similar to old sim cities. So you have a lot of room to grow/build in.

Pretend this is the sequel to Sim City that EA failed to deliver, you shouldn't be too disappointed.

Do you get different types of citizens in this game? Basically I want to simulate a city inhabited by the gamers in the SVU gamers episode.

I have no clue seriously. Gonna sit down and play it here in a bit for a few now that I have a few hours real substantive break, but haven't touched it yet except to install and load it up once.

Played for couple hours so far.

Much more freedom than Simcity, but missing some of the "slickness".

Many of the buildings are the same, etc.

I am sure all those minor things will be fixed.

So far there is much more freedom to actually design a city.
