Eh. I played a few months sometime in 02 or 03. I just missed out on the best time. And got nowhere really. Maybe it was 01 summer between college and grad school? I didn’t give it full effort. My buddy said I was way behind.

Anime and JRPGs are mainly the realm of faggots and autists.
I loved Dragon Warrior, FF on NES, FF3 and Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana on SNES, Suikoden and the like on PSX. My bona fides are solid. Then it all got fagged out.

For the most part, JRPGs, anime, etc. is just weeb shit for the freaks who fuck anime pillows and shit. But, there are those few rare exceptions in both genres that buck the usual rules.
This game is one of them.

16 hours into the game I just finished Act 1. The end was spicy. Looking forward to the end of Act 2.

i played for hours today until my controller battery actually died. its been a long time since thats happened to me. amazing game, "only" 10 hours in but this is a 10/10 GOTY for me.

Finished Act II, starting Act III, but maybe I'm too much of a pragmatist since I don't currently see the point of the purpose in Act III because:
The reasonable thing to do is let Renoir erase the Canvas and move on. I do hope some other stuff is explained in Act III, namely what is Clea doing? Who was Julie? What is a Fracture? Did Aline go into Verso's Canvas to "be" with her son and daughter again? etc etc. Also, I really hope I don't need to clear all the Painting Workshops just to upgrade some weapons to lvl20.[/spoiler}

The Jrpg thing is weird.
First, the two biggest names. got lost.
Dragonquest. 10 was an mmo. 9 was on the DS.
11 sucked. and that was back in 2017
8 was the last proper dragonquest, back in 2004.
A million spinoffs. some were ok/good. Dragonquest builders 1/2 are pretty great. but again, origins of survival base builders, not jrpgs.
final fantasy. completely lost the plot.
2 mmos.
spinoffs and trash. the core design of FF is lost, and its action rpgs horseshit.
whats the last proper final fantasy? 12 back in 2006?
NIS has been pumping out Disgaea, and other jrpg likes.
we should remember JPRGS have their origins in Wizardry. and that lead directly to jprgs as we know them, but also, dungeon crawls continued.
japanese wizardry's. >kings field/shadow tower/dark souls.>Etrian odyssey..
Therese been a major push back towards the dungeon crawl.
also open worlds, and action gameplay. Dragons dogma, breath of the wild, elden ring
the classic Jrpg has been taking over by persona and persona likes .yeah.
good comfy classic JRPGS are almost entirely western indie dev territory.

Was watching a bit of Cohhcarnage just now and he is interviewing the ceo and art director.
The ceo basically just said he started it as a solo project with Lost Odyssey in mind as it was his favourite JRPG. And that Seikiro was a main influence in the parry system.
