Yeah I never got the whole best game in the world vibes from this game while playing it. I mean it was OK? The combat system was kinda lacking it was basically parry or dodge to win, no other real combat tactics. The story? Yeah whatever, I guess if youre into the story over everything else in the game I guess? Only thing about this game I found compelling is that it was made by a small indie team, which deserves props. Didnt even like the game world all that much either. I would give this a 6 or 7 out of 10, IMO. But I guess if youre going against 100 DEI games that suck dick that year, well there you have it.

What I can't believe is that this game is now being considered one of the all time great RPGs.

This game is no where close to games like Skyrim, Cyberpunk, Dragon Age Origins - hell even Chrono Trigger (yes, I'm not crazy referencing CT).

To be fair they said that about last of us too and that game is retarded.

I played it so young, I got stuck I think sorta near the end, after you I think beat the giant big bad meteor boss or whatever but Chrono gets crunched then your stuck kinda exploring around open world, couldn't figure out where to continue from there, ran around everywhere, BC, 1999, etc couldn't figure it out. (And before I had internet basically)

yeah. "Mid" is too much. its a great game. but it is a bit overrated. its no FF3/6.

The many endings was great. but then does also hurt it in terms of story. it ends up more silly then dramatic.

ff3/6 was a masterpiece. music. characters. world building/ambiance.

mode 7 opening credits.

the opera.

Chronotrigger was all over the place. it has its moments, sure. but its not just the wall to wall excellence of ff3/6.
Even when ff3 breaks apart into the Scenarios which build a ton of characterization. Swaps main character. etc. incredible.

Lavas awaking is pretty cool. but its not as devastating as FF3/6 when Kefka destroys the world and you have to LIVE in it. Celes contemplating suicide.

Chrono's main char swap is ok. the other characters are a bit too cartoonish to have it hit the same. but, I mean, that too is pretty legendary, and remembered.

Celes contemplating suicide.

No, she attempts and fails - the official "Way it goes" is that Cid dies and she jumps off the cliff that everyone else did (and succeeded in killing themselves) - so she had 100% intent to die (even the sad dead bird sitting there...) she just /somehow/ did not, and came to on the beach and found des ex bandana. The feed Cid and he lives and gives you the raft is more of an "Easter egg" and /not/ the writers intended story.

Edit: Also it is sad they have continuously censored her jail scene, she was chained up and was being raped and molested by men she was commanding like the day before.... bro does not just sleep that deeply because he is board, the guard was essentially too tired to molest anymore tired, from too much rapeage. And it is not because us the player /wants/ that to happen to Celes, or that we are really dogging for pixle boobies, but it shows how the character was broken and how bad, that leads into her suicide (attempt).

I can't believe people are putting Dragon Age: Origins on their "greatest RPGs of all time" lists. That game was mid as shit and really the beginning of the end for Bioware.

I'd put it well above mid as well. I'd be comparing like to like. so, jprgs, blobbers, etc, not counted.

but, if you compare DA:eek:rigins to neverwinter nights, temple of elemental evil, drakensang, etc. its pretty solid. theres a ton of eurojank, indie rpgs out there.

Drakensang is mid.

The Marilyn Manson Song couldn't even save it.

The fact that we put Dragon Age: Origins only slightly ahead of $10 indieware trash like Drakensang kind of says it all...

For a triple AAA developed, "crpg of the century!" style game? Mid as fuck. Even something like Kingmaker is ahead of it and that game has/had plenty of problems and came from a relatively "indie" studio (at the time) in Owlcat.

This is great.

We hijack this thread and remind people of other games that are much better than this so-called game of the year.
