Well, my expectations were pretty high, since I usually listen to new songs until I hate them and Get Lucky managed to stay on my playlist since it was released. I think couple of songs will be on radio for ages and another few are them indulging a little, like Giorgio, because it doesn't really work unless you are listening to it alone. Reading r/daftpunk they make it sound like heaven on earth, which is overdoing it a bit, but it's very solid and will probably inspire some shift in music for the next few years.

I wasn't really expecting a specific thing from them, more like trying to enjoy new songs.

Well, of course. r/daftpunk is where the die hards live. :p

For me, I think this has definitely lived up to the hype. It's a lot better than I expected it to be. The only song I don't like is "doin' it right" - the rest of the album is pretty damn great.

It's streaming in itunes now, btw. Do a search for 'random access memories' and there'll be a stream link. Not sure if the quality is better or worse than the leak, though.

Edit - The itunes version is significantly higher quality. Listen to that instead.

Edit 2 - Or go here --http://search.itunes.apple.com/WebOb...?path=daftpunk

It's great, completely different and my speakers are busted so I don't mind the rip for once :p

Well, I'm iTunes negative, so the leak was exactly what I was looking for :p

Doin' it right starts good, but then doesn't really go anywhere, prime target for remix!

Give Life back to Music is imo the best song of the album, all those 7-9 minutes epics have a bit too much fluff

I guess im the lone "this album is not what I was looking forward to" guy.

It has nothing of the Daft punk that I have liked, and way to much digitized funk/jazz. Im just disappointed

You're not the only one. I just finished listening to the album, and although I thought it was OK, it definitely wasn't like Homework or Discovery where I enjoyed almost every song. It felt too far away from their house/electronic roots and a little too slow/funk/love songy for my tastes. Having said that, I did enjoy "Give Life Back to Music" and "Get Lucky," and maybe the rest will grow on me.

I'm a big fan of the current state of dance/EDM music, so I hope this doesn't change the direction of it, and I can't really see it doing so. This album comes off as more of something for them creatively than anything else. It's gotten great reviews so far, though, so who knows if the public's response will be the same.

They said in their interview with Pete Tong that they'll be remixing the album to sound more Daft Punk-esque sometime in the future. Maybe a remix album? That'd be cool.

I wouldn't worry about this changing the state of EDM. I think it might affect pop music, though.

Well, they said there is a decent chance they will release their own remixes at some point, so they might go back to the sound that made them famous. Edit: Beat me to it

Predicting pop is night on impossible, I mean for the last year and half it was dominated by teenage Canadian and a fat Korean

This album sounds like Air, albeit a funkier, more upbeat version of Air. That's not a bad thing, though. Air are fucking amazing.
Contact in particular is giving me a very Air-like vibe. Good comparison.

This is a god damn good album.

Pretty disappointed. I was expecting, and like, the disco and funk elements but I thought it would be slightly more upbeat. A lot of the songs also have a smooth jazz feel to them and that sound does absolutely nothing for me.

Completely agree. Giorgio by Moroder is another one that isn't bad, but the whole album iswaytoo funk influenced for my tastes. It sounds like a 70s porno.

This album had me bored to tears. I accidentally listened to Contact first because the playlist order was in reverse, and the rest of the album pales in comparison to that song for me.

I thought Get Lucky was a really boring song at first too but it grew on me so maybe the rest of the album will after a few listens.

A little over halfway through the album. A bit too much autotune, but it's mostly good. I'm surprised. Usually I dislike this kind of stuff.

The album is pretty medicore. I "get" what they were trying to attempt but you know those old pop songs from the 70's and 80's all had somethings that this album doesn't have and those are good hooks and memorable choruses. It's all a bit underwhelming. Reminds me of MGMT's second album in that it really didn't live up to their prior work though in retrospect DP haven't put out anything really good since Discovery. They have been kinda riding it's coat tails for a while now.

One thing I haven't heard about is how ... well, quiet, it sounds. I'm not really familiar with creating music, so I assume there are some tricks most pop songs use to seem louder that DP chose to skip ?

Yeah it's called compression. Basically it's where they take the loud and quite parts of song and normalize them so they all have the same output killing any dynamic range in the process. It's an attempt to make the sound pop out more. If you have a visual equalizer while playing music on your computer look at the levels and you will see how they are all pumped up. Nothing wrong with it but it's been overused for the past 20 years. What's even funnier is that radio stations send all their music through a compressor while broadcasting so you have songs being played on the radio twice compressed till they don't even resemble the original recordings.

Whatever. Robot voice shit. Vocoder warrants more merit than autotune, but it's still overused.
Not going to argue with the overuse sentiment heh.
