Darkfall: Unholy Wars is terrible. After years of begging, apparently AV is working towards bringing back DFO. Developers Axilmar and Mass have stated the biggest issue with bringing back DFO would be the transference of account information, login information, etc, which would take a month or two. Likewise, a DFO emulator is making substantial gains, so either way, we might see a return of the original incarnation of Darkfall within the next 6 months or so. I'll update the thread with relevant links, quotes, etc this evening, if anybody is as interested as I.

So Action RPG combat with EQ1 graphics that was released in 2009. Which was then cancelled with a month's notice in 2012 in order to boost a new version that subsequently bombed. That sound about right?

I enjoyed Dark Fall. Had loads of fun wandering around the world. Really gave a sense of fear that at any moment you could be ganked and lose all your shit. Also the fact that it wasn't a gear grind was a nice change. Upgrades were far and inbetween for a casual player.

That's kind of misleading. It has to do with free to play microtransactions or DLC purchases, not subscription fees or box sales. And it's from 2013, before xpacs and what have you. The fact that Hearthstone isn't on there means it is obviously pretty lacking, because that's a goddamn cash cow these days, something like 800m in 2014. Graphics had nothing to do with the shitty turnout (sub 100k at best) for Darkfall; it was a lot of silly technical issues and glaring design flaws that put it firmly into niche (and unprofitable niche at that) gaming. Not shitting on anyone who enjoyed it! But there was a lot more going on than just the graphics engine with DF.
