I was annoyed about the gunpowder thing because the box is made out of billions of dollars and decades of material science to be a perfect insulator - 30 seconds with a drill and that thing is fucked beyond repair.

And then, it becomes obvious the dumb plan is just him stalling, and then of course the 'duh' moment - it obviously appeared out of nowhere the first time, why wouldn't it do it again ?

I just binged the whole show over the last week. The entire time he's getting ready to destroy it I'm just sitting there thinking, there's no way he's that dumb. It's obvious the box manifests itself into existence. It literally happened in his world and in this one he's in with no technology. He wouldn't be so dumb not to connect the fact that a universe without microchips somehow has a box in a school pool.

My other nitpick of the show is them walking down the corridors of doors. I don't understand why this is a thing, outside of just them wanting them to move around for camera shots. But they've stated several times the doors themselves don't matter. They could sit at the same door for hours and open up different worlds. It's not a big deal, but just a bit of a bizarre shooting choice that doesn't make sense with what the characters have said.

The infinite versions of themselves is also something that makes sense, but with Leighton for instance travelling a ton, presents a lot of problems as now there are infinite versions of him in basically every universe. Essentially the Jason 1 problem but now for every universe he's visiting and revisiting.

There was also a "Dark Matters" hosted by John Noble.

Man searches the universe(s), nearly dying dozens of times, to reunite with his wife.

Wife leaves him anyway to "find herself" because things feel "icky."

Way to encapsulate current year, writers. Well done.

I was being slightly facetious. The show is pretty decent sci-fi. This most recent episode was super mopey though.

I am running into a bit of a problem where they keep cutting to different universes and it takes me a second to figure out where we are. Like, who the fuck are we looking at? I feel like I need establishing shots every time we get a scene change now.

It's based on a book series, I believe. So I imagine it might follow the same path as Silo.

Next season is Silo's last. 2027 release.

Dark Matter is a standalone book. The first season covers all of it and has a satisfactory conclusion to the story.

If you want, you can just watch that and nothing else.

S2 is all new for the tv series - that's usually a huge warning flag, but it is pretty good so far.

Blake Crouch, who wrote the book is also the head writer and showrunner for both seasons though so it's not a game of thrones situation.

Episode 4 was off-beat for the usual mix of intrigue and excitement the show normally delivers.

It's the first time in over a dozen episodes in the series where you are left blank on what's next. A mid-season reset of sorts-- where they get the next story arc up.

I'll see it through, but I'm weary about moving away from the usual story beats and formula that we are accustomed to getting in this show.

But as I sat with it, I found it kind of satisfying. I think because it basically wrapped up that Jason's storyline altogether. The only thing that cheapens it is that there are like hundreds of them, so why care about this one specifically? It's also weird because there were at least 3 of them in that universe so logistically I don't understand how it'd work.

I kind of thought this episode would be about how all these Jason's were going to infect every universe with dozens of them and ruin every world.

Another episode where the normal story beats of the series are not delivered.

I didn't sign up for this type of character study of Jason 1 of 100000. The themes they want to explore are best explored in a novel, not television.
