Yeah, that was a fun conversation. Wife doesn't do horror much, thought this was going to be more comedy.

Wife: Do you think it will be bloody?
Me: Nah, I think this will be fine.
Wife: ...
This is my wife too. Good to know its gorey ahead of time. She might change her mind now.

I feel ya buddy. I watch horror movies in my office because the wife doesn't like them, unless it's maybe more of a thriller type deal.

Don't bother. I mean I normally will watch any A24 produced film, and this one starts out okay and it looks good, but it's pretty bad. Totally predictable and just boring by the halfway point. There might be a laugh or two, but not really. I don't know if it was based on some stupid book or comic or whatever, but part of me thinks it was just Hollywood zoomers or AI writing a retarded script.

Avoid is my suggestion. No wonder Paul Rudd is bowing out of acting....

Really surprisingly boring given the subject matter and antman.

Couldnt stay awake for the end, do they redeem it somehow?

I don't know why people praise A24. They've done nothing but release shit movie, after shit movie, after shit movie. Exception of maybe 1 or 2 films out of the 120+ish they've done since 2012.

Anyway, this is no exception. Turned it off about halfway through.

Hahaha, I fell asleep halfway through, then we made dinner and I finished it it was to the point where I was fast forwarding through stuff.

Pretty bad overall, but I'm glad I'm not the only old man watching stupid Hollywood shit...

I don't know what you're smoking but A24 is typically a sign of quality. Maybe they've been slipping over the past couple of years, but I'm fairly confident when I see their production logo that the movie is at least worth my attention.

I mean they put out some of the best horror stuff in the past decade or more.

This, however, I completely agree was a turd.

I agree they do well on some of their horror movies.

The best movie they've released is Everything, Everywhere all at Once. It's the only movie of theirs that made money over 100 million worldwide. They've made a ton of movies that broke even, more that lost money. Granted, A24 is typically "low budget". Financial wise a good portion of their movies are flops and critic wise (audience not Hollywood) they get consistent low reviews or at best average or slightly above average. 60% of lower with exceptions of their horror movies which usually get up to the 80% range, give or take.

A24 right now is the modern Lionsgate. Lionsgate when they first came about were constantly pumping out trash movie after trash movie. It was the release of SAW that got them some credit and then they go and release Crash which was fucking terrible but it beat out Brokeback Mountain and finally putting Lionsgate "on the map". Since then they have released a ton of decent and good movies and also a bunch of shit, including the long exhausted SAW series.

A24 has released mostly shit.

The only good movies they've released (in my opinion) are as follows.

1. The Witch (good but predictable)
2. Warfare (Amazing but couldn't finish it)
3. Everything, Everywhere all at once
4. Tusk (Great body horror movie)
5. Hereditary

179 movies to date and 5 are worth a shit.

Like Lionsgate they do much better in the horror genre than anything else.

I think maybe where you and I see things differently is I don't necessarily equate a giant box office cash in as what makes a good movie. Sure it's write that a movie is a stupid financial success like a retarded Jurassic Parker transformers movie. Doesn't mean any of those movies are good just because they made a bunch of money off of retards.

I mean if we want to apply this logic look at classics like Alien, Blade Runner, or The Thing. None of those made any bank, but we Revere them as some of the greatest films of their genres. I mean the list goes on and on the films that are completely stupendous compared to other movies that came out during the same time. That were box office successes.

I rewatched Highrise the other day with Tom Hiddleston and if I remember it's an a24 film, didn't get a lot of publicity but it was a good movie. I just think as I've gotten older I appreciate the low budget, independent stuff more than ever, and I don't remember what threat I posted it in, but the last big movie I went and saw was 1917 and I haven't been to the theater since then, and when I look at the summer sleep for big movies, I'm not jumping in my damn truck and pre-ordering any tickets to go waste time at the theater.

Amen. So many good movies in that list that may not have been a giant financial success by Blockbuster standards, but those are a bunch of movies that I will maybe watch once a year because they're just that good, or even own a copy.

No. Not saying they need to be blockbuster hits to be successful. What I'm pointing out is they're a low budget movie studio that releases movies that either break even or they lose money. They've had some successful releases, yes, but the majority of their shit is just that. Shit.

Then again, the mega Hollywood studios have been doing nothing but releasing shit movie after shit movie as well. So, maybe it's just an industry thing now.

Poker tournament players are typically looking to cash in 15-25% of tournaments. Anything over 20 is respectable. The other 80% of the time they're losing 100% of their buy in and walking away with nothing.
