I think maybe where you and I see things differently is I don't necessarily equate a giant box office cash in as what makes a good movie. Sure it's write that a movie is a stupid financial success like a retarded Jurassic Parker transformers movie. Doesn't mean any of those movies are good just because they made a bunch of money off of retards.
I mean if we want to apply this logic look at classics like Alien, Blade Runner, or The Thing. None of those made any bank, but we Revere them as some of the greatest films of their genres. I mean the list goes on and on the films that are completely stupendous compared to other movies that came out during the same time. That were box office successes.
I rewatched Highrise the other day with Tom Hiddleston and if I remember it's an a24 film, didn't get a lot of publicity but it was a good movie. I just think as I've gotten older I appreciate the low budget, independent stuff more than ever, and I don't remember what threat I posted it in, but the last big movie I went and saw was 1917 and I haven't been to the theater since then, and when I look at the summer sleep for big movies, I'm not jumping in my damn truck and pre-ordering any tickets to go waste time at the theater.
