Any opinions on either of the first 3 Vanquish desktops from Digital Storm?http://http://www.digitalstormonline.com/vanquish.asp

I have been planning on trying my hand at building my own but I know next to nothing about the process and their prices don't seem too far off for what they are offering. I mainly just want something to play the next crop of MMO's on the horizon (FFXIV, Wildstar andmaybeESO) with great quality/performance. Not really trying to break the bank but also too lazy/technologically ignorant to surf around for deals on separate components so these pre made seem enticing. Also not familiar with AMD but I know a vocal few who swear against.

Any thoughts?
I only looked at the best edition. The price is around retail price + $50-60 so it's a good deal. They build it for you, have nice cable management and 3 year warranty. Only bad part is you can't switch out the 650Ti with a 660Ti, but not needed unless you game higher than 1080p resolution. Otherwise, it's a solid system.

And no SSD which IMO is pretty much a requirement these days for performance. I guess you could always add one. And I would ask them if you get the win disk with it. Also ask them if you can go without the 650ti which is crap. Or at least upgrade to 660ti.

Comes with win7. I don't think they interchange shit like the gpu but I dont mind upgrading over time. Think I might just pull the trigger on the "best" package and be done with it.

Appreciate the feedback.

Try to get an SSD - single biggest upgrade you can do to make your computer "feel" faster

Video card the 660 Ti or the 7950. Most 660 Ti comes factory OCed so it has an edge over the 7950 which you have to OC yourself. Both will play games at max at 1080p resolution.

The best bang for the buck will always be the "K" Intel processors. Easily OC it 400-500 Mhz on stock voltage. The new chip Haswell is coming out in summer so if you can wait, you should because it comes with a new chipset.

Yeah, new Haswells are due June for the desktops so might as well wait. They are supposedly 10%-15% faster per core than the current K proc. i5 is the way to go for gaming since i7 does not contribute much for the money for the gamer.

So how would that compare to a 4-5 year old Dell 24" Ultrasharp, image quality wise? The same or better?

Bigger, higher pixels/inch, lower input lag, no anti-glare.

The cons would be shitty stand and 16:9 instead of 16:10.

Thank you. (Although it did make me sad to see someone say 1080p in a thread about PC's)

It seems like there's always new shit just around the corner when I need to upgrade. So now I need to decide if I want to wait for slightly better products and the inevitable early-adopter woes, or buy now and ruin the purchase by worrying that I made the wrong choice.

I miss the early enthusiast days when it was obvious when an upgrade was a good choice, and not just some slight upgrade.

Question about the 660ti's: how big an issue is the reported memory bandwidth issues?

The memory bandwith limitation on 660Tis is a total non-issue unless you're gaming at 1440P or above or across multiple monitors. A single 1920x1080(or1200) isn't going to come close to being limited by the memory bandwith on a 660Ti

In fact, you're more likely to run into just pure horsepower issues well before memory becomes a bottleneck(and even that is pretty unlikely in most games right now at 1080/1200p or below)

I have a 660Ti and it's great for the money(Got it for like $290 + free Borderlands 2 when they first came out last year). Well worth it in my opinion. Runs everything great at my default resolution of 1920x1200, but it struggles if I stretch that out to 3840x1200 across both of my monitors, but that's not a memory thing really, the card just isn't beefy enough to push that resolution on high/ultra settings in most newer games. You'd need a 680+ or multiple cards to even start thinking about smooth graphics at that resolution.

Unfortunately, all monitor manufacturers have adopted the 16:9 ratio. There are barely any monitors at 1920x1200 resolution these days.
Nah, I meant seeing #p being used in place of typical resolution numbers. That sort of thing used to be solely used when talking about TV's and console gaming etc... And it's just weird seeing it here. Not a dig at you, just weirds me out.

Are Gigabyte and EVGA still quality companies? I'm having trouble picking a mobo & card.

They are good, I think generally the ASUS CUII cards are considered the best due to being an excellent mix of speed/sound.
