If you need to wait on a card, might as well wait on the monitor and hope new tech drives down current prices.

What people are suggesting is buying prebuilts just for the cards. Miners will catch on soon .

Earlier today there was a prebuilt with 2x 1080tis for around $1900. You'd turn a profit on cards alone .

It's killing me having the money to upgrade video card and monitor, in what I feel like is a significant jump, but not being able to because the shit isn't out there

Bitcoin broke below 7k today. Another massive selloff, as China has announced they are going to block crypto exchanges.

Not sure if this graphics card mining mania will last much longer at this rate.

Looking at upgrading and I honestly cannot tell if it's worth it right now, maybe you guys can provide some input.

Current Rig

i5-4670k @3.4ghz
16gb DDR3
MSI board
GTX 1070

Looking at

Ryzen 1700
16gb DDR4 3200
Board??
Same card

From what I can tell the Ryzen and Intel chips are super close when it comes to 1440p gaming, however, they both seem to be maybe 20fps higher than I run now, not sure if it's actually worth it....thoughts?

Not worth. Overclock the shit out of your 4670k instead.

Id wait until the new Ryzen processors come out in March/April at the earliest to upgrade. They should at least be 10-15% faster than current Ryzen processors maybe more depending on clocks.

Buyers remorse here. In 2 games (Tera and Company of Heroes) do I notice any difference between my new build i7 7700k and my old build with an i7 4770k. I just needed a video card. 1080ti from a gtx980 would have been fine.

On Tera, the new machine I am in the 50 fps range with a 4k res. I used to be in the 30fps range. COH I maxxed around 40 at 4k. Now it caps out above 60 fps.

I will second that, negligible difference upgrading from my i5-3570k+DDR3 to my i7-7700+DDR4

Thanks for the input, that's what I was thinking. I mainly play FPS games liek BF1 and PUBG, the only real thing I noticed were the dips weren't as severe.

I might just get a Corsair liquid cooling system and maybe try to push the overclock higher.

I'm still rocking my i5-2500k, and just now seeing a reason to upgrade with the last couple generations. Guess maybe I don't know what I'm missing because I can't imagine why you'd want to upgrade if you had any other newer processor?

I'm just starting to see games where I'm in the "minimum requirements" category, and that shit is gross.

Oh I get that then for sure. When The Division came out and I chugged bad I upgraded to a gtx 970. Because I don't play new games hardly ever i guess I'm stalling having to upgrade.

Tera man? Isn't that game like 10 years old?

It's still super sweet if you can handle the weeb factor. Best combat system in any MMO to date.

And yes, it still runs like a fucking foot somehow.

Yeah I meant I don't care what people play but did you think a 7700k was going to improve a 10 year old game?
