Anyone willing to do a review?

Intel Core i7-4770K, EVGA GeForce GTX 770, Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) - System Build - PCPartPicker
For RAM, I Ripjaw X 4gb. F3-2133C9D-8GXL

Its basically within budget, I do have a 2tb hdd, and optical. I didn't know if there was better options or something else to do in regards.
Looks real solid

The only thing you *might* consider would be a larger SSD, like possibly going with a Samsung Evo 250GB for like $40 more than you were going to spend on the 128GB Pro

The reason I say this is that generally speaking, the larger the capacity the better a SSD performs, so benchmarks of the 250GB Evo aren't significantly far behind the 128GB pro, and the higher % full you are on a SSD, the more it slows down. Ideally, you don't want to fill up a SSD over like 50% capacity or you start to take significant performance hits(and absolutely don't go over 75% full). It'll not be easy to stay under 50% on that 128GB drive unless you literally put nothing on it other than windows.

I'd be willing to bet that 75-100GB installed on a 250GB Evo will perform MUCH faster than that same amount installed on the 128 Pro, even through technically the pro is a faster drive that only stays completely true if both drives are virtually empty

edit - and if you want to make up for that extra cost somewhere, you could dial back your PSU a bit, you won't need anywhere near 850W, even if you SLI your 770s down the road at some point. Even with SLI'd cards you'd be hard pressed to go over 500-550W under max load, so you could easily get by with like a 650-700W PSU if that can save you a few bucks

Makes me sad I didn't jump on the Cyber Monday deal for 250gb SSD ;c

When it comes to the MB, RAM, and PSU; I get easily overwhelmed. Just saw a sell on the 850 for 109$, and it was semi modular. Also debated going Micro ATX instead of ATX, but most everyone I know regardless of SLi or Crossfire, they're still on ATX's.

edit; taking a look at a few other options, probably swap it out for a 650, and up the SSD instead. $

And for entertainment, someone matched my build on reddit, but in an SLi setup.

You could go with an i5-4670 instead of the i7 to help offset the cost of more ram and a bigger ssd. There's a negligible difference for gaming, and you'll save $60.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on this build. Anyone see any issues or opportunities to improve without raising the cost much? Or is anything overkill? I plan to build this as a gaming rig primarily obviously, but also run Sonar X1 for audio production. Would like to be able to grab another card for sli in a couple of years after the inevitable slow down. Currently running 1920 x 1080, and may at some point go to 2 monitors.

Don't pay that much for the operating system. I just bought 2 legit Win8 Pro keys for $10 each. Use the money saved for extra RAM or upgrade to an i7 processor.

On my smartphone but go read the last few pages of the Windows 8 thread here on Rerolled and you can see my posts. Got it from a guy off Reddit.

Edit: On a separate note how come I've never heard of this PC part picker website? Holy shit. Scans all the websites and gets you the best price. Pretty awesome.

You guys do know that if the BSA comes checking having a "legit" license means shit if you don't have a receipt. It's worth 10$ to not have to deal with loaders and cracks (although Daz's loader for Windows 7 is pretty fucking sleek) but it's just stolen merchandise. You will probably wake up one day with the counterfeited windows message.

It's handy if you are buying one or two parts, but if you are building an entire system you are probably better off on the overall cost buying from one retailer to save on shipping costs. If you end up paying shipping from 3+ different vendors, you most likely lost any savings you made anywhere else.

That said.. What has happened to Newegg? They really have gone down the shitter in terms of prices. Amazon tends to have a better price 99% of the time. Newegg also charges a fucking fortune shipping to APO addresses now. Sad I rarely use them anymore after using them almost exclusively for the last decade. Greedy bastards.

Yeah, I didn't buy anything from Newegg this year. Everything I buy for my PC now is either from Tigerdirect, Amazon, or Microcenter(B&M)

Doesn't matter where it's from if you don't have a receipt to prove it was a legal purchase. You're pretty much guilty until you can prove yourself innocent by showing purchase documents. Don't think invoicing from paypal will do.

here's a recent postAsk Slashdot: Dealing With the Business Software Alliance? - Slashdot

google will provide more details about this.
To each their own I guess. I've used keys obtained in similar fashion many times, and never had a single problem. Currently going about 2 years on a Win7 key obtained and never had any issues and always get any windows updates that are needed.

Plenty of feedback on the Reddit's thread that it worked out well and has been 0 issues with the keys working. Not like this guy has a keygen and is just popping out keys. If down the line I get a pop up that says I need to enter a legit key then so be it and I'll deal with it then.

In the mean time, I'll enjoy my cheap keys that work, and put the money towards other parts, but I truely expect nothing to happen.

Newegg pretty much forces you to play the combo game or wait for items to go on sale if you want good prices. But when the stars do line up, holy shit.

Which is just dumb. I will take Amazon's cheaper prices at MY convenience, not when Newegg wants to dick around.

I just finished upgrading to an Asus Z87-plus with an i5-4670, with a few headaches and nit-picks. Running your keyboard and mouse through USB 3.0 is apparently a no-no, and the board only comes with built-in USB 3.0, so I spent a half-hour digging through my old boxes of shit to find a set of rear-panel USB 2.0 ports. I'm also not a fan of the 6-hole mounting, but I'll probably never care now that it's put together.

The Samsung 840 Pro seems like a real winner, though!

If the deal was on the 256gb version, I'd bite on it. That's what I have my eye on right now.
