Found one even cheaper. $405!

Freeexpress Perfect Pixel 30 Yamakasi 301 Sparta s IPS DVI D 2560x1600 Monitor | eBay

Will probably end up getting one. At that price for a 30" is incredible and with pixel perfect.

dunno how good it is (do your own research!) but damn, 2560x1600 30" ips for $430 shipped from korea
Perfect Pixel Yamakasi 301 Sparta 30 s IPS 2560x1600 DVI D PC Computer Monitor | eBay

same dude sells 120hz 1440p 27" catleaps but that seems way overpriced at $899. I've got two 27" koreans OC'd to 90hz each running just fine off a single 680, and a 60" lcd attached too. only one displays games though, I don't span monitors, fine for 40-70 fps in bf4 @ 1440p.

Note that this monitor is a CCFL LCD, not an LED

I'ts going to be thicker, heavier, use more power, and be not as bright as the typical 27" Korean 2560x1440 LEDs.

I'd stay away from that monitor, it's not a great deal. Get a 27" 1440p for $300, a 27" 1440p is the exact same DPI as a 30" 1600p

I took a quick glance at the Asus Maximus VI Hero, and these are actual listed features:
SupremeFX- Supremacy through discrete-caliber audio

Sonic Radar- Scan and detect to dominate

Extreme Engine Digi+ III- Hardcore power delivery with premium components

GameFirst II + Intel LAN- Put Your Frags First
lol wtf. Id refrain from buying it on the single premise that they are insulting your intelligence with stupid buzzwords and catchphrases that realistically mean nothing

lol yeah it's very much planted on the dumb side for marketing, I watched a video made by the guys who made it. It was like watching some cheap assed tv commercial that you would see in the wee hours of the morning.

Although if it does actually give me better performance then I'm willing to ignore, and never repeat the so called features of the board

You wont get any noticeable performance gains, but I do love the Asus bios. Have not used an Asrock since everyone went to uefi so I don't know if they are as nice.

I currently have an Asus board which was another reason I was kinda swayed. I can't seem to find many people singing the praises of the ASRock board either but I'm not sure if it's just fan boys that are hyping up the Hero. I'll probably just go for the Asus in the end unless someone tells me a horror story or six about it.
Thanks again guys

Not sure what caused me to get it at the time, but I've had a ASrock mother board for a couple years now with no problems.

Picked it up from Newegg and it's been just fine for me.

Yep, ASRock is solid, I've had one of their motherboards in my current PC for about a year and a half now. Overclocks great(my i5 3570k is overclocked from 3.4 to 4.6ghz) and as stable as can be.

GameFirst II is a QOS tool that lets you play FPS games at normal latency while torrenting. Intel LAN is superior to boards with broadcom or realtek lan, by a large margin.

The first 2 are just features of their onboard sound, which is an upgrade over the standard onboard sound on their other boards.

So it's not entirely meaningless. They're some niche features though.

I just wish they would actually explain the feature, rather than list random buzzwords and meaningless jargon like "Put Your Frags First" and "hardcore power delivery". Those mean nothing.

Makes it looks like something you would see in an advertisement in the movieIdiocracy

The ONLY thing that premium boards have (like the Maximus series) better than standard boards is the onboard sound. You can actually hear the difference but it's nothing a cheap discrete sound card can't fix. Network controllers all have worked flawlessly for me, yes even the shitty Realtek ones. A free license of Kaspersky is nice but any software bundled like Sound Radar and Game First are useless. You can argue that premium boards have better capacitors, mosfets and shit like that but the average user doesn't need all that bling. And besides, unless it significantly impacts frame rate, who cares

They used consumer grade drives for enterprise storage. Smart move.
They use cheap drives with with diy cases / backplanes and considering they have 27.000 of them, something is working. A 2tb hdd recommended by HP for my 400$ microserver is~600$.

Anyway, the point is that this is the biggest independent reliability study about current generation hard drives.
