I need a few recommendations on what to look for. I finally bit the bullet and got i5 4670k and a z87 mobo to go along with it. I just need some advice on what kind of power supply to get and what to look for in a monitor. I won't be doing any SLI that is for sure but I will be gaming. What wattage should I be aiming for? Would 500W be sufficient?

For the monitor I am going looking for something around 20+" and 1080p. What should I be looking for in regards to response time?
500-600W is plenty with one video card.

Yep, that's pretty much what I'll do. Symbiotic links are great!

Do you guys think a 750W power supply is enough for two 780ti cards?
Probably, the 2 together at max load is going to put you near 500W, more if you overclock.

Than again, if you're spending $1500 on graphics cards, what's another $50 to go up to a 1000W power supply?

So I finally go all my parts together, now I just need Windows 7. Someone posted on here finding it for $30 somewhere but I could not find the post with a link to the site.

I ended up getting the Corsair AX860i Platinum...more than enough for my two 780ti cards. Cards are not overclocked.

So monitor bros, I have the opportunity to get a pair of these used:

HP LP3065 Black-Silver 301 - Newegg.com

Local recycle/donation Freegeek shop is selling them for 500$ for the pair, no stands. I used them both there today and the screens appear to be flawless, no dead pixels etc. Price seems damn fine for them, but I don't know a lot about how they perform for gaming. Obviously they are older WQXGA screens, but is that really going to be an issue for the price?

dunno anything about that monitor but you're gonna need beefy GPUs to run 2560 x 1600 at max settings

12ms response time on that monitor means blur-fest for games. Middle of the road monitors are usually 5 or 6ms. The really good gaming ones are usually around 2ms

I need some advice on what to purchase and for what Upgrades to pick. Ill start with the current setup and the direction that I think Im going to take. I dont play high end games, like Crysis etc. I play around in FF, WoW and other MMO's the most. League of Legends, SC and D3 are all regulars as well.

Windows 7: 32 Bit Home>>> I looked at the Windows 8 thread, and sent reddit guy a PM over 64 bit Windows 8. If that guy doesnt get back to me, advice on where to find another cheap copy?

4 Gigs DDR3 2kmhz>>> Looking at upgrading to 16 Gigs of Memory, but only at 1600mhz speed. Im not sure I can take advantage of the 2000mhz with this computer? Advice?

500gig 7200 rpm Seagate HD>>> No Change: I see cheap SSDs all the time, but Im not to keen on paying as much as some of you are for just a PC.

nVidia GTX 465: 1Gig>>> Im looking to upgrade to a nVidia GTX 770. Advice? Better bang for buck on something?

MSI NF750=G55 Motherboard>>> No Change

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T>>> No Change

800W ATX Power Supply>>> No Change
----------------------------------------------------------
Im asking because I dont want to buy something that is overkill for what the other components of the PC are.

RAM - you definitely don't need to go higher than 1600mhz, and you'd probably be fine with 8GB for quite a while. The difference going from 1600mhz ram to 2000 means virtually nothing for gaming

HD: Get an SSD, seriously, get one at least big enough to put your OS on, any smaller 128GB drive would be fine. Scale back to 8GB of ram instead of 16 and use that savings towards an SSD in your budget. 20 second windows reboots are a thing of beauty.

Video Card: 770 is a solid choice. Can always add a 2nd one in a couple years when it starts to get a bit long in the tooth, and at that point a second one will probably be like $150.

Only caveat is that availability of most graphics cards goes to shit about 12-18 months after their initial release, to make way for the new lineup. Try buying any 6xx Nvidia cards these days, which were launched in March-May 2012 for the most part. You can't find them anymore, at least the little bit I've looked. Although I suppose you can buy used.

True, it can be a bit tricky to find that window of time in-between the extreme markdowns to clear them out of inventory, and them actually being cleared out and gone. 660Tis are right in that window at the moment, they launched August '12 or so and there have been some huge markdowns on them over the last couple months. I bet they're sold out permanently by summer or so

So I went a little crazy...

Post us up some benchmarks of those bad boys once you get them up and running. My go-to recently has been Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite, since the benchmarking tool is built-in. Super easy if you have one of those.

I finally completed my computer. I have been using a laptop for the past 4 years. I must say I do miss the higher pixel density of my smaller screen but the laptop CPU and gfx card were very long in the tooth. My new desktop is whisper quiet even when running a game like the Witcher 2 at max settings. The nosiest running part is an old HD drive I put in it. I will upgrade to a solid state down the line.

Anecdotal jimmy rustling: I don't think I'll ever order a GPU from EVGA again. The coil whine on my factory OC'd 780 Ti of theirs is WAY too fucking loud.

Might sell mine and go back to Gigabyte which I was very happy with when I had my 660 Ti.
