Yeah lots of shit left open ended/unresolved and can't tell if it's just bad writing or world building for future seasons.

On one hand sure they can address those things in future seasons but on the other hand, they've pretty much burned New York as a setting and given dexter an out so there is no reason they would ever logically revisit NY as a setting.
Too many people in NY know exactly who he is, including the autismo cop lady and her partner, though they can't prove it. Plus Uma's character, all the staff that worked for Prater, etc Even Al (Pony tail guy) will figure it out when he reads the news about prater being missing and his serial killer collection (including his trophies, and probably even his video of him murdering the jogger), He knows who "Red" is, and can put two and two together.
Especially the detectives. Prater was obsessed with serial killers, cop from miami shows up claiming dexter is the bay harbor butcher, cop ends up dead by praters gun in prater's trophy room, body draped over as if by someone with remorse, trophy room has a plaque/vestibule dedicated to the bay harbor butcher but that trophy is the only thing missing? And his son was prime suspect in a murder that matches the BHB MO including the body chopped up into 9 specific body parts? Oh yeah you pinned it on Mia but there's now evidence that Mia was tracked by/part of this serial killer club and the evidence was likely planted (only trophy in her collection without her finger prints on it)
No reason that Dexter would remain in NY. He has a new yacht and extensive files on dozens of serial killers active across the world.
next season he should travel the world like kane in King Fu.
