Feels way too soon to me; D4 just had an expansion like 4 months ago. Kinda funny it's already dead before POE2 is even officially out.

They can't outdo Lord of Hatred. It was the pinnacle of what D4 was supposed to be.

Instead of dragging RoS out ala D3 for 20-30 seasons, just give me the next Diablo sometime in 2028. You can't improve on D4 any further after Lord of Hatred. It peaked.

Depends on what they actually do with D5.

For all the "improvements" made to date, D4 was a remarkably unfun game at launch, and is only marginally better now IMO. The characters, story, and core systems all just kind of suck.

So no, I don't think it's "too soon" for D5... IF Blizz can make something better.

Unlikely, though.

D5 will just be D4 but with a different number at the end.

Yep, D4 started morphing into D3 design wise. No reason to expect D5 to be any different.

I do wonder if they will let you carry over those $40 armor mtx to D5. Would be pretty shitty if not.

They are going to start really aping PoE2 systems. The 2 big ones they can probably hit right out of the gate are MTX rollover and keyboard movement. The stream starts in 5 min.

Demon Hunter and Monk returning from D3. First new class announced is Plague Knight. Number of classes at release will be more then any other Diablo game has total.

Seems like the unsaid thing was that the D4 engine was really limiting them going forward hence the need for a new game. This is just an announce panel, there isn't a lot of info yet

The timing is right. Following Lord of Hatred with another expansion announcement isn't a good idea. You can't polish shit twice. The base D4 game they launched had too many issues. They addressed as much as they could-- D4 has had it's big RoS moment, delivering a finished product years later.

With them coming clean about engine issues affecting the core gameplay I take that as an unofficial admission that D4 has been shuttered.

Based on their experience with D3, Blizzard knows when to move on. Lord of Hatred was a great sendoff for D4, and I'll be there to buy D5 on launch.
