The "there's no movie stars anymore" thing is part of a broader discussion Hollywood is having with itself about what will be a success and what won't be. The people calling the shots are routinely blindsided by what makes huge money and what dies gruesomely. Surprises have always been a thing but with production costs ballooning it stings all the harsher when you eat shit or when a horror movie with a budget under a million prints fat stacks of cash while embarrassing major productions. Nothing is a sure thing. Obsession emptied it's ass all over The Mandalorian and Grogu this year and that was hilarious.

its a complicated thing. there is a big difference between star power, and fame. or even audience draw.

"TOM CRUISE is DIGGER"
thats star power. every Digger poster says that. (and while it may seem sublte, compared to any other poster with similar sized actor credits. its not.)

Christ Pratt might be the closest, maybe ryan reynolds for real star power atm.

there are guys that are famous and have audiance draw. versus star power, which basically allows the movie to be sold entirely on the actor's name and face alone.

Its not just about the actors either of course. its about how they are marketed. its more of an industry trend, then a criticism of the actors themselves.

Movies are being sold on directors more now. Star directors more then star actors. Nolan, Tarantino, Villenovu, James, gunn, Scott Synder, etc.
Even Backrooms, and Obssession. curry barker and kane parsens getting all the nods. Creggor with barbarians, weapons and RE.

But also IP.

The makeup on cruise here, might have been part of the problem.
