Played Divine Divinity back in the day, which was a janky Diablo clone ARPG type game.

This will probably be more like Witcher 3 style ARPG? :emoji_pray:

However, pretty sad they didn't a Throne of Bhaal equivalent DLC for BG3, like Bg2 had, where you could level to 20 and fight uber opponents.

I wonder if it'll be turn based still. I'd kinda like to see what Larian could do turning Divinity into Elden Ring.

Just imagine all the modding possibilities. All the woke shit will be modded out, just like in BG3.

Oh fuck NO. You already HAVE Elden Ring. Go play that, or whatever the next entry in the series will be. Leave our turn-based alone, and stop trying to turn everything into bland uniform mush, you greasy prol!

(Not that ER is bland mush, but trying to turn everything into ER clones would be.)

I was considering making a post last night, but went to bed instead.

Mortismal made a video, and he did pick up on many of the things I wanted to talk about.

Originally the "Divinity" tag, made me think it was a reboot of Divine divinity. But, the more I looked at the trailer, doubting it. it does look more like post OS 2 Rivellon.

-humanoid orc. there is a orc in the crowd that looks way more human then normal.
-lizards, humans, elves, dwarves, all shown. no specific undead. (I suppose the masked man could be.)
-3 effigies. the center effigy is clearly a women. (the one the man is in.) she appears to have an undead mask on. Dallis? the effigy to the left is a knight it appears. Lucian? the third effigy has a hole in its chest like the statue.. has a deer skull head. not human, and may represent the demon released.. or the god king.
-the whole place is covered in circles like the hole.
-the man in the effigy has a star mark pattern on his chest. 7 gods? 7 wizards of Divine divinity? is he one of the 3 marked ones?
-the demon looks like a demon in divinity, not a source creature.
-the close up on the man crowned at the end, is the dwarf that was eating food, not the guy that was burned. in case that was confused.
-before lighting the effigy. there are 2 men with Deer helms. and 2 wearing bird helms whipping themselves.
-the men in the bg here make the same hand motion over their eyes the women did. the mask man does it, to the effigy.

so, reboot/prequel options. the man is one of the 3 marked ones. Killing them, releases the Demon God Chaos. which is what we are seeing.
Post OS2 option. orcs have crossbred into humanity, and the effigies are Lucien/Dallis/God king.

What genre?
so, Larian back in the day... chased trends and tried new things. Divine divinity started as an Ultima, but swapped to arpg, due ot diablo. Divinity 2:ego draconis was an oblivion like. 3rd person action.
Dragon commander was an rts.
Original sin got back to the ultima roots.
bg3 is a more traditional crpg.

So.. who knows? I would guess, the new names implies they want to distance from original sin. so, its probably action. sven talked about how their next project is their biggest yet.. so, maybe its an open world action rpg ala skyrim.

Well I'm certainly hoping it's turn based. Having both Owlcat and Larian turn to inferior games for my tastes would be a bit of a bitter pill. Both companies were day 1 buys and the only companies I have bought into EA for (on multiple games from each). I've already lost all excitement for Owlcat's games and an ARPG from Larian would do the same for them.

On the other hand, if they can make an open world realtime RPG in the spirit of Morrowind and Gothic, where there is actual choice and consequence interwoven with a great story, I probably wouldn't be too disappointed.

On the one hand, they may want to make it feel more different than BG3. On the other hand, they might want to attract and retain that large BG3 fanbase.

I didn’t like the combat in DOS2, but that was after playing bg3 for 100 hours.

Choo Choo! Hype train boarded! I'm so excited Larian is going back to their own IP. Gives them ton more latitude to really push storytelling. I loved the original Divinity games too. I don't think they will feel pressure to cater to the DnD crowd too much - they're the masters of their craft, after all.

Love how brutal the teaser was.

I had a great time playing Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. So definitely looking forward to this. Larian has massive amount of goodwill on my part after BG3.

I doubt this new game will be turn based. I imagine it would have been Original Sin 3 if that were the case.

Even if that trailer had zero gameplay, still cant help but get excited. I guess that's what happens when you have a studio with a good rep. Though probably going to be waiting years for it.

My guess is this will either be third person action game or isometric action game.

That said they clearly enjoy making turn based games so we will see.

Don’t matter because will be 2028 release at best and I am here for it.

Here's a dumb question... If I just never got around to playing any of the Baldur's Gates or Divinity or Iceland Dale, what should I grab to try and jump in? Somehow the whole "western" CRPG genre tabletop rules thing passed me by throughout my whole gaming life. All the traditional JRPGs, action RGPs, and everything else I've played 1,000s of. So yeah, jump in with Divinity Original Sin 2 or BG3?
