Everyone says pathfinder is complicated and they are correct but if you play on normal and don’t try to min/max the recommended class progression is fine.

Divinity series does its own thing and they do it very well. Both very good games and examples of its genre.

Personally I would avoid the older games as the quality of life stuff isn’t there and easy to bounce off of. BG 1-throne of bhaal? Amazing, great story, good times but even I hate how it looks and plays today. Takes hours for it to stop looking ugly as fuck.

tldr, play something recent that isn’t BG3.

Playing Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 as "one" game in the BG2 engine is a fine experience. I played it again a few years ago (with the EE editions). Of course I'm a bit biased as BG2 was the first Bioware game and one of the first RPGs I played, when it was released.

Beamdog's additional story content for the Enhanced Editions was mediocre at best, but the EE made it so you can get the benefit of various mods/fixes without needing to hunt for the mods they used to make it "Enhanced."

To make it all into one game/engine: (Gibberlings3 is a mod community for Infinity Engine games).

however, 10th of the budget. little to no voice acting. no mo cap. barebones cutscenes. reading. I hope you like reading. WAY WAY More mechanical depth.

To be fair, the best CRPG of all time from a story perspective was Planescape:Torment; but trying to play that game now is an exercise in futility.

Yeah you have to ignore some stuff in BG3 but the fun for me was the characters I grouped with and a bunch of side stuff was awesome. The sheer amount of choices and the exploration/locations far outweighed the bad.

Just goes to show you…I think combat is best part of divinity, spell combos, rogue ganking, ranger cheesing, telepathy cheating! EXPLOSIONS!

how are people thinking it's somehow a difficult test to play an old game with dated graphics. like seriously, it takes like 15 minutes to get into the UI, and who cares if it looks dated? it's about the story line with these game. like jeez, you think its a struggle to read a book, too? damn bro, just put in a bit of effort, like this is what people complain about the youth these days, can't hack a little bit of effort

Oh fuck off, was coming at it from a never player CRPGs before, BG 1 would be fucking aids to anyone new to the genre. BG 1-2 are good times but definitely not where I would jump in today.

If you want to break into the tabletop-to-PC rpg scene, you have several dozen games to choose from and the vast majority of them are truly incredible experiences, but BG 3 is on another level and it may spoil some of your enjoyment unless you're really a fan of those types of games.

BG3 has ruined it for me, tried to launch Wrath of the Righteous after playing BG3 and just couldn't stick.

It was not the graphics that made them difficult.

Bro, the old D&D games had THAC0 with no fucking explanation on what it was or how to calculate it. Bonuses were nonlinear and they truly expected you to have a copy of the 3rd (or even 2nd) edition Players Handbook to help you make the goddamn decisions.

Also, some did not have shortcuts to highlight interactable objects, and the ones that did always had things like doors or secrets that didn't show up. Try fucking pixel hunting in those games even with upscaled resolutions.

the game as system part yes. ground effects etc.

I notice you didn't mention the armor system, or the actual skill system, learning skills, memory, etc.

What is aids about it? I played a refreshed version of it a few years ago and it was fine, I had fun with it.

Thats why I said BG3 should be like the last of the last crpg you play if your visiting this genre, because it will literally ruin you. But BG3 is like the ultimate crpg experience and what the genre can become when its fully voiced and 100% fleshed out.

This is the remake I want most. Nothing changed except QoL and updated graphics.

I remember being ready to burst when Torment: Tides of Numenera's development was announced, but I will never, ever, ever forgive inXile for the absolute fucking train wreck that game ended up being.

It had the potential to be great (and some elements of it were), but it was a clunky, poorly executed mess. And as the spiritual successor to the original Torment -- it wasn't even in the same galaxy.

I don't know about the old gold top games, but BG1 and 2 came with a pretty good actual manul that covered stuff like THACO.

Of course it did, but we are talking about going back now and no games come with manuals. So my THAC0 just went down to 16 this level and now I have a +2 longsword... so my THAC0 goes down with plus but up with penalties.... and that is before we get to the Dragon with the adamantite scales and AC -2 (THAC0 goes up! Right?????)

Fuck all that shit
